Should I?

Ok, so sometime this morning during some particularly baaaaaaaad contractions (which have since eased off ... again!!!!) I developed a leak. Now I know that once the sac is broke you have 24 hours before bacteria becomes a worry. Is it the same for leaks? Should I head into the hospital tomorrow and ask about antibugs? I know being over its going to go into induction talk - and I am prepared for that. I will be spending tonight trying to get her into a more favourable position for birth as I know she is posterior and worried that this has something to do with the constant stalling.

How long can I avoid an induction with a leak? Do I go for the antibugs? *sigh* This is all new to me. I've never had my membranes rupture outside of labour before.

Hmmm, I would. My sister had a small leak with both her boys (at about 38 weeks) and as she was Step B positive, she had to let the midwives know. She was induced with both as she had gotten to the risky stage without going into labour naturally and I think it was about 12 hours after the leak started. Her first went on to be the usual intervention circus minus the c-section. Her second was a much better experience - waters broken properly by the midwife and that was it, no other intervention and drug free. He was born about three hours later in the bath :D

I'm pretty sure it will stay sterile as long as no one gets their hand up your vajay jay to "check".....

you only have a risk of infection if you put something foriegn up your vagina.
so keep plodding along i wouldnt go in for ABs. you know your body and your baby if it doesnt feel right go in
(also if you were to have an early RM they let you go as waters regenerate.....food for thought)

:hug: Dunno. When my waters broke, the midwife told me that if I hadn't had bub after *I think* 15 hours then we'd need to discuss options, but he was born an hour later...so I'm not much help. :p

Maybe see what happens tonight, and keep an eye out for any sign of distress like meconium? You could always call them tonight just to see what they say.

I would spend a few hours crawling around on hands and knees to help with position and wait and see if you get more contractions tomorrow. Try to get rest tonight...good luck and I hope you get to meet your little one soon!!

Yeah, No one is getting anything near my personal space anymore! I have set stuff up just in case they decide to give completely, but I was hoping I could hold off going a bit. I seriously do suspect it will be a pressure cooker in the hospy being over and leaking. But obviously I dont want to risk my bub. She is fine - kicking like a trooper.

I just really do want to give it some time. Its getting there slowly and this is not unusual. It WILL grab and get good eventually. Going to keep believing that.

I had a hind water leak with DD and was admitted to hosp overnight, to be induced in the morning if things didn't get going on their own...luckily they did, at 5am the next morning, they broke properly.

Also there was a lady in my BBuddies group who had a leak, she went into hosp for a check & was allowed home over the weekend on anti-biotics ...they basically gave her 2+ days for things to get going which I thought was pretty good (more than I ever got at any rate!)

So yes,I do think the risk of infection applies to leaks as well as 'proper' breaks, kwim? However I don't see that there is much difference between me being in hosp overnight & you being at home overnight...maybe if things haven't started moving in the morning I would be going in for a check & some anti-biotics then?...

I can't help on the leaking thing because mine have ruptured both times well into labour.

Not sure if you're still around, but just wanted to mention that you shouldn't bath either (as far as I know). I had a leak with DD1 & they treated me as if they were 'broken'. I went straight in though, I was a tad young & scared...
With DS they 'broke' properly. He was in distress though, so I had to head straight in, & he was born after 5 hours.

My friend's waters broke at 30 weeks & the hospital kept her in & told her she had to stay there until bub came, so she stayed leaking for a whole two weeks before contractions started. I know it's a different situation with her bub being so early, but I don't see why being further on in the pregnancy would make any difference IYKWIM.
