does this sound stupid?

There was a thread a while back about young babies hating the car. I definitely have one of them. You only have to turn him around with the door open and he screams.

He is also very very long...the size of a not so short 12monther. Consequently the head hugger in his seat is really really squooshy. It's on the highest level and is really hard to get his noggin in there. Often he gets so distraught he ends up pulling his head out of it and has it balancing on top.

So I took them out of both of our prams - and all of a sudden he is happy as larry to sit in them.
He has very good head control, but is way way too much of a light weight to even think about front facing.

There is nothing I can see that says it has to be in there (the head hugger I mean)....
what do you think?

My car seat didnt come with a head hugger but we bought one that sat in the seat and we had to get rid of it when Bella was about 4 months as she is also very long (72cms now) so it was really squishy for her. Bella did have very good head controll form the start though. Now she just has the cushion thats in the seat. Maybe take it out and go for a short drive and see how he goes??

We also have a little mirror thing that attacjes to the cage in our wagon so that we can see what she is up to at all times.. if you have one of those then you can see how him head goes as you are driving??

I think I know what you mean by a head hugger - and yeah, I wouldn't have any problems taking it out.

If it is able to be easily removed, then there wouldn't be an offence for removing it. I do not believe it adds to the overall safety of the seat if a crash was to occur. It's more a comfort thing to keep bubs head from tilting too much (if it's what I'm thinking it is ;)).

If you're still unsure have a read of the manufacturer guidelines (if you have thrown them out you may be able to find them online) or otherwise call the company to triple check.

Kim, is it a Safe n Sound seat with the infant insert bit? If so, there does come a time definitely where you need to remove it as they are too big for it. They guy at the ambulance station fixed my seat when I took the capsule back with Oskar... he told me I had him sitting too high and it had to come out.

no it is a fisher price seat....just the soft bit to prevent their heads rolling around.

I took it out and haven't heard a peep out of him in the few trips we've done today! Wahoo!

My daughter hated the hugger in out unity capsule from day one, so all she has had in hers is a sheep skin liner. My others didn't use them either.

i think they are just to there to help bubs head from rolling. I think it is safe to remove once Bub has good head control. I took mine off as soon as DD's head looked too snug in it.
