Has anyone had a dog with constant yeast ear infections? Usually dogs with floppy ears because they don't get as much air into the ear or something.
This has been on going Grrrr
Yes we've got the drops and the ear cleaner from the vet but has anyone got any good tips?
I know getting water into the ear is not good, I'm so over this on going problem.

Have you tried traeting the paws as well? My little dog scratched his ears so much but we found by traeting his paw at the same time with an anti fungal solution, it cleared up much quicker.

futuremum, there isn't much unfortunately. Some people try dog probiotics, but it hasn't helped any that I know...
The yeast is malassezia and is quite annoying. There is a shampoo called Malaseb & you can dilute it 1:40 and use it as a rinse out. It is designed to kill that yeast. You can use it as a shampoo as well, so can wash your dog quite happily. If you use it though on the rest of the body though, you need to be careful about drying the skin out too much... may have to get a doggy conditioner as well. Malaseb has to be in contact with the skin for ages. This should be done every few days, or a wipe out everyday to prevent infections.

christy I might seek out that shampoo if not for her ears only.
The groomer recommended Illium Oticlean spray which is for horses but she said it's excellent for things like this too. She also cut her ears quite short which doesn't look so nice but may have helped some

Our lab also gets this problem on a fairly regular basis too :doh: We used to use the malaseb wash as Christy mentioned but found it didn't do a great deal. We now have an ear cleaner called Epiotic which you can buy from the vet or pet shop. We have found this to work so much better. We clean our boy's ears out once a week when he is better and use baby wipes and cotton buds to clean the outer ear. When he has the infection again we use the Epiotic daily and antibiotics twice daily and we use a cream on his paws too as he scratches and chews himself too.

Poor thing, her ears get really red too. I must say it's been better since I posted this thread and maybe the fur clipped off has helped too
futuremum do you have any drops?? If you do,you can put some on the part of the ear that is red.
My dog pretends he doesn't hear us and looks the other way when we ask him if he wants his ears fixed :rofl: They are too clever lol
Yes the drops we have at the moment are pet shop drops just called aristopet ear cleaner but before that we had cleaning drops we got from the vet, we've also got medicated canine dermotic drops.
I haven't got around to getting the Illium Oticlean spray yet but she seems to be a little bit better lately.
