I've had some unsettled nights with DS not settling for sleep/feeds for at least 2 hours at a time. A friend who is overseas has recommended Happiest baby on the block by Dr. Harvey Karp. There is also a DVD version as well. Just wondering what people have thought about it, or if anyone has read it. I have found a copy of both the book & DVD that I can get hold of through a couple of local public libraries but I'm wondering if it's worth getting them out or not.
your baby is 6 days old he is still adjusting to the idea he has to let you know what he wants rather then it auotmatically supplied.
get a copy of pinky mckays sleeping like a baby.. but i wouldnt try any routine before 6 weeks at the absolute minimum
I recommend Pinky McKay books also. "sleeping like a baby" and "100 ways to calm the crying" gives good tips too.
I met Pinky McKay a few weeks ago at her Brisbane talk and she recommended that book you are talking about. Definitely look into it :D
The first 6-8 wks is really spent getting to know your baby and your baby getting to know you and you'll soon learn what the different cries etc mean..... it will get easier. :hug: In the meantime just focus on sleeps and feeds. You are doing a great job :D
I would recommend reading the book. It has some great settling techniques and isn't about getting bubs into a strict routine. I also borrowed it from the library because I had heard that it was good but didn't want to buy it. He has an interesting theory about colic and that babies need a 4th trimester. He also has another book baby bliss which i also borrowed but it seems to be pretty much the same and i didn't have time to read it.
I have also read Pinky Mckay 100 ways to calm the crying and i didn't really get as many tips out of it, but worth a read if you can find the time.

I didn't mind 'Happiest Baby' - I watched the DVD and took a couple of tips from it. Kind of goes to why babies like to be held, rocked, cuddled while they're young and my DD really loved his 'head jiggling' technique and the swing we had for her (best way to get a proper shower!). Maybe I've forgotten, but I don't remember the DVD even mentioning a routine, it was mostly about settling.
But Pinky is excellent, so I'd go for her book first!
