Little Sophie's Arrival!
Well as most of you know I was hoping I would beat an induction date set for the 13th and I did! Here is my birth story.
It all started on july 7th, 2009. I was 38w1d and just had my Dr. appt. She had said I was still 1 cm and 80% effaced (no change). We discussed the induction set for the 13th and she said she thought I would be in labor for a good 24 hours. I left feeling very disappointed.
That night DF and I decided we would have one last date night before we were parents. We got all dressed up and headed out for dinner. When we got there my pelvic pressure started acting up but I did not think anything of it because I was always have extreme pelvic pressure.
After we left dinner we decided to stop at the grocery store and pick up some treats and a movie. I told DF I had to pee and ran into the bathroom. I had been losing my mucus plug for weeks but when I went to the bathroom I noticed it was red spotted this time. As we left the grocery store I looked over at DF and told him I had an erie suspicion I would go into labor soon. Boy was I right! We got home at 10:00pm on and got into our snuggly pajama's and started the movie. I drifted off to sleep.
At exactly 12:00am on July 8th, 2009 I woke up and felt like my butt was sweaty. As I felt down there I noticed my underpants were wet. Panic set in. I sat up and WOOSH! my water broke. I started pushing DF to wake up. He jumped up and looked down and then started freaking out. We both started to go into panic mode and grab our stuff as we left for the hospital. I was really frustrated the whole way there as I could not stop leaking. I walked into the hospital looking like I wet myself. DF thought it was funny.
As we got into our room my mother had arrived. She then called my grandmother who was also to be present at the birth. The nurses hooked me up to the monitors and checked to make sure I really did break my water. Then they left to let me labor.
things started getting really scary. I have extreme anxiety and it kicked in. everyone tried to calm me down but nothing worked. I was shaking uncontrollably. then the Dr. came in and explained that they did not let people go past 16 hours after their water broke. This made me even more nervous as I did not want to have a C-section.
4 hours went by and they did another internal. Still only 1 cm! then I started crying because the Dr. ordered I be put on pitocin. After they started the pitocin the contractions started coming fast and hard. I felt them mainly in my thighs and could not stop shaking. After an hour of pitocin I asked the nurse for some pain medicine but only a little. After the pain medicine I was so loopy I could not concentrate. and I still felt the contraction. so epidural it was!
when the Dr. came into give the epidural DF looked queasy as he hates needles. The Dr. told him to stand in front of me and hold my shoulders so I would have support. Within five minutes DF passed out and pulled my IV out on accident. He got a black eye from passing out on the monitors. I could have killed him!
After the epidural i fell asleep. within 6 hours I saw the Dr. come in. He said he was going to check me as he was afraid I was still only 1 cm (checked hour before). He said if I was still 1 cm they were going to put a monitor near my cervix to see if baby was in distress. the Dr. put his hand in and looked shocked. I was 8 cm.
After he left the nurse explained that if i felt the urge to push that it meant it was time and to let them know. Before she could say another word I said that I felt the urge. She laughed and said it had been only two minutes ago that I was eight. As she checked me her face dropped. I was 10cm and baby was on her way. she then yelled for the nurse to get the Dr. The nurse said the Dr. was busy and so another Dr. rushed in.
He was such a nice Dr. He knew I was nervous and scared and told me jokes in between pushing. Within 20-30 minutes Sophie arrived. they put her on my belly and rubbed her off. she was beautiful. DF started crying and so did I. She finally arrived after 11 hours of labor.
She weighed 5 lbs and 13 oz and was 19 inches long.
We are both very happy to be her parents. thank you for taking the time to read this story!
