hmm struggling!!

ok i know its very very early but i want to have the names sorted!! we are not finding out the sex of our baby so we need names we like for both sexes
every name i have mentioned hubby doesnt like :S

our son will have Michael as his middle name (hubby's name) and our daughter will have Kathryn as her middle name (my mummy)

so far i have 2 names for a boy hubby is half ok with - Ethan or Walter (im not a fan of walter but hubby did like it so i could get used to it?).
so my question is when did your other half get into the naming thing? and when should i get cranky and demand we decide on names?

Im with you!! i have 3 names that I love! we know the sex of our baby so it makes naming bit easier, but everytime i sugest anything to DH he says NO! im so over it all hahaha.
My problem im having is comming up with other names, I love the ones I want but hes not into them. how do you decide!.

Well we wanted to find out the sex so it's abit different to your situation. DH refused to discuss names until we had our 19 week scan & knew if we had a son or a daughter. Before this I kept throwing names at him & he just kept telling me to wait!! It was very frustrating so I can sympathise with you.
So on the day of the scan we found out we were having a boy. We decided on his first name the same day, but the middle name took some time. I hated what he chose & now we've come up with something we're both happy with.
Maybe your DH just needs a little more time before he is comfortable talking names. It's different for them as they're on the outside & not experiencing it like we are IYKWIM.

lol you have 60 days after the birth to register the bub...so if you don't have a name by about day 55 I'd be getting cross :D only joking.
It might take him a wee while to get used to the whole 'we're gonna have a baby thing'. It's happening to your body, but to him it's just an idea.
Wait until he sees it on a scan or can see your belly and feel it move. He'll get there in his own time.
Why not buy him a names book and leave it wherever he likes to be...on his desk, in his car or something with a little note saying something along the lines of 'thought you might like to have a browse without me nagging'. Put a pen and notebook with it and he might do it off his own bat....worked for mine anyways.

we had an early scan due to bleeding at 6 weeks and 3 days he was so so so excited and cute and couldnt stop kissing me he was over the moon!
i think im just being too organised?
he originally wanetd to know the sex so he could paint the room but i siad we can hae pale yellow room we can use more then once and he is happy with that.

I also wanted to get our names sorted fairly quickly, so I totally understand! It's a big decision! My DH started getting into names when I put them into context for him, like "And the best and fairest Football Trophy goes to... <Insert Chosen Name & Surname>" and "Oh look here comes little baby <Insert Chosen Name>" or "Come on <Insert Chosen Name> time for bed mate" before then, he just couldn't seem to think any name sounded "right" they were just all random names...

After I put a few to him in this context, he fell in love with one name in particular that I loved but he had previously not liked at all a couple of days earlier, now he's totally all for that name, we still suggest others but he just totally adores that particular one, he talks to my belly using the name, asks me all day "How is our little Mr so-and-so going today?" and the like... He only realised how much he loved it after he heard it being used in context, maybe try that if you haven't already, men are simple creatures, not sure how many would put names into context in their own head lol!!

Otherwise, just know that you DO have LOTS of time and you WILL find the very perfect name no matter what, so even if the wait kills you, it will be worth it in the end to have a name you absolutely ADORE! Good luck!!

Hmmm we are the opposite here. DH was starting his list of names we liked a couple of months back and I am holding off for a little while. I dont want to go through names so early that I get sick of the ones we choose. We are not finding out the sex either.

My DH has only gotten serious about names in the past month or so. I started considering names in the early weeks too but I'm still not decided! We plan on taking three names for each sex (we don't know what we're having either) to the hospital and hope that bubs suits one name more than the other two.

Try not to worry too much hon. It can take a while before the boys really adjust to the fact that they're going to be dads. I think they realise when you start to show or at the 20 week scan. You have plenty of time to make a firm decision too so just start jotting down a list of names for each sex and every so often go through them with him and see what he thinks.

Now, back to my list..it's so hard!! LOL!

DH is not very good at talking about names!!

When preg with DS we had a boys name picked from 20 ish weeks (he kept forgetting what it was and ask me LOL) however girls names we were still discussing while i was in labour so was relieved when we had a boy!!

I would try and corner him in car and would get dumb suggesions like street names, FWY names, car brands anything he saw on a sign grrrrr

This time i have started suggesting the most disgusting names i can find to try and get him to want to think!!! so far not working LOL

It is a bit of a dilema the whole name thing. It's so hard to agree!

I hope you don't mind, and I know you didn't ask for opinions, but just wanted to say that I know a little Walter and has a bit of a hard time with that name. I know kids can get teased for all sort of things and I guess if you love it go with it. It did feature in this article....

Bad names for boys | baby names | boys' names

We had a girl's name all sorted out ... BUT no boy's name ... even two days past my due date still NO boy's name :doh:

We just simply couldn't decide on a boy's name that we BOTH loved or even liked ... All we could decide on was what initial we DIDN'T like the name starting with ... So have you tried that idea ?? Just a thought ;)

By the way, we ended up having a little girl, geez she saved us one huge headache, LOL :dance:

I wanted to add congrats on deciding on not knowing the bubbas sex ... i can tell you from our own personal experience we tell everyone that it was the best GIFT we could have given ourselves. I only the other day described it to a friend it feels like you have just won 1st division in tattslotto when bub is born then only moments later someone telling you that you have now ALSO won 2nd division :dance:

P.S - I go with ETHAN as i'm biased, it's my gorgeous nephew's name !!!!!!!!!!

DS's name we picked after about 10 minutes when I was 14w pg. It wasn't my first choice but it was in my list of 10 and the only one in that list DH liked. The middle names took a simple "A or J for the first one?" "J" "OK, you pick the second one, a name from your family." "I like H." "OK, **** **** **** it is then?" "Sounds good."

We then tried to pick a girl's name.

Bear in mind this was a 5-hour car journey with nowt else to do.

The next day we had narrowed it down to 3 (of the five thousand that I came up with and one DH did). Then DH didn't like two of the three and wanted a "for long" name for Ellie.

Two months later, there was no "for long" name. DH did come up with another name, Tamsin, that was passable but I wasn't too keen. Tamsin Zaidie Ellie would give the initials TZE too and that's a bit too fly-like for me.

Then, another 2 months later, DH went back to one of the three that we both liked four months previously.

We didn't have the full girl's name sorted out when I gave birth and DS was overdue by everyone's reckoning (2-13 days, depending on whose date you use).

Oh, and DH forgot Liebling's name all the time too. Not when he was actually here, just when I was pg. "What are we calling the baby again?" Drove me bonkers. Then he decided he didn't like the girl's name the month I was due and that wasn't on... he couldn't think of a better in three minutes so I wasn't going to help come up with ANOTHER new one.

DH and I have been talking about baby names for years!! We have definite first and middle names for baby no. 1 whether it is a boy or a girl, and we have had them since before we were married. We're one of those couples that talks about our futures alot.

We also have 4 backup girl names and 3 backup boy names - so if the baby doesn't suit the name we've chosen, we can use one of them. We plan on having 3-4 kids, hence all the name options.

The girls name we have chosen is one that I have loved since I was a kid, and DH loves it too, and the boys name is one that DH came up with one night out of nowhere and I was like PERFECT!!! Its actually one of the most exciting things for us at the moment, the anticipation of whether its going to be a girl or a boy, since we love both names so much its like a competition to see which one gets used first.

There were heaps of names that one of us loved but the other didn't, but that was instant veto so we kept discussing until we found ones we both loved. Though DH isn't too keen about the middle names I've chosen, he likes to keep me happy so we're using them. It's just a middle name anyway so it doesn't matter to him.
