flooded timber floors - what do i do??

Has anyone flooded their timber floors?? I just did it this morning. The pipes in the laundry tub must have been blocked, so the water overflowed from the washing machine :wall:

I've cleaned it up in the laundry where we have tiles, but the timber flooring in the rooms joining the laundry have water coming up through the joins, when you step on some bits there is "squish" sound and water bubbles up.

Not a happy lady today :angry:

Is the only choice replacement of the flooring, when it buckles??

Do you have anything very heavy that you can put on it to keep the wood flat? I would suggest laying some old towels on it to absorb the water then putting something very heavy on it to force the water out & also keep the wood as flat as possible.

Other than that, maybe call a wood floor installer/seller this morning as soon as they open & get some advice.

Is it the timber laminate floors hun?

I think you might get problems with them buckling as the base of them is ply and I'm not sure but it could cause the timber to separate :think: I recall them saying something along those lines at the showroom when we got ours. That is my biggest fear about having them too!

If it's bad enough check with your insurance as it might be covered :crossfingers:

My folks have had to had their floating floorboards replaced twice due to flooding. They were replaced by insurance. Has put me off getting them!

I don't have timber floors but when I was pregnant late last year with DS, I left the bathroom tap on & plug in the sink ALL night.. I only noticed as when I was walking down the hall the next morning, it had seaped through the bathroom into hallway and to my daughters bedroom. I called the insurance company and they were fantastic with in 1 hour a guy was there with massive industrial dryers which had to be left on for 3 days...

So my advice would be to get on to your insurance who will send out the professionals, who will know what to do....this guy was able to tell how much % of humidity we had in the walls and floors it was amazing...We ended up with no structual damage...so I would really recommend getting a professional out to advise you...

if they are solid timber you might be okay BUT you need to get the industrial dryers on them asap so the timber doesnt warp. If it is laminate flooring.....sorry to say but with that much water it doesnt bode well. ring your insurance asap and get an expert in today is my advice.......
