How long did it take to buy a house?

2 questions but the main one is :
Once you were ready to buy a house, how long did it take you to find the one you wanted and got?

I`m so ready to buy, but we need to get approval etc.
We got an online pre- approval from one bank we asked.
2nd question:
Did you do a preapproval application and was accepted for a larger loan once you went to the bank in person and sorted out all the finer details ? :lol: the pre approval we got wasnt for very much :rolleyes:

I don't know that you want to hear my particular experience LOL!

I've been looking for over 18 months. Have just upped my pre-approval.

But I think I've found the place I want, have put an offer in on it, and hopefully will know by midweek whether I get it or not.

We got pre-approval and about a month later drove past an open house by accident, fell in love with it and bought it.

We went to Mortgage Choice and got pre-approval from a few banks, but we didn't go with what was offered, we chose an amount that we knew we could afford to pay each month. (At the time, 2yrs ago, banks were offering us easily twice what we worked out we could afford comfortably)
Probably took about a month after that to find a house we liked, but we had been researching/semi-looking for maybe 6m before that. Even then, we were pretty blase about whether our offer was accepted - there are always other houses.
