Anti-fungal creams with MCN???

DD2 has had nappy rash for a while now and my midwife thinks it is thrush and is recomending an anti-fungal cream... Which is fine but what effect does this have on my MCN's? I don't really want to use sposies while she is being treated. I already use microfleece liners with her as I am using a nappy rash cream and I don't want to get it on my stash. Will the liners work with a anti-fungal cream or do I have to use sposies?

Would moogoo help clear this up or just help prevent the nappy rash in the first place? I have some hemp healing balm on the way and have tried a bunch of other nappy creams but nothing is working :doh: and her tush is looking sooo sore!

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :pray:

I don't think you'll have much luck curing thrush with Moo Goo. If it is thrush, get onto it quick because it's irritating as hell. I would personally use a sposie, but with a cloth liner but I'm a little paranoid about stuffing up my nappies :D Hope it's all clear very soon.

Oh, also, I have heard of good quality, natural yoghurt being used for vaginal thrush, but never anything about baby bottom thrush. If you want to try more natural things than the thrush cream. :dunno: A google would tell you more.

Thanks CrystalBoo, I'll get sposies at the same time I get the cream. Would be nice to use yogurt instead of the chemical stuff - I'll try a google now!

I have used antifungal with MCN, with no problems. it is water soluble so it washes straight off, and doesnt cause problems with absorbing when it is on. My rule of thumb with creams is put a bit on your finger and run water over it. if the water beads or the stuff doesnt wash off then use a liner. An anti-fungal will also help if there is any lingering thrush in the nappies, because it can be transferred if it isn't properly removed from the nappies.

Yes, and a Canestin rinse if you use your clothies is probably a good idea too.

I use Canesten (or the generic brand) on DD's bottom with my MCN's without a liner. You can tell it's water soluble as it washes straight off your hands and rubs in clear. Nappy rash is technically a fungal infection even if it isn't thrush so it's a handy cream to have. I wouldn't use yogurt - yogurt is good for vthrush because it's just the discharge, but if the infection is in the skin you need to treat it with a proper anti-fungal. HTH.

I dont know if it is the same but I saw a anti fungal moogoo cream at the chemist today and thought of you?

they have a heap of new products or maybe i have been under a rock which look devine :)

Alioops - thanks for the tip about water soluble things - the one the dr recommended is not water soluble so I've been using sposies :( can't wait till she has her fluffy bum back!

So far the rash is slowly going away. Grace has had nappy free time with her bum in the sunlight coming into our lounge room which she loves (a tip from my mum) We're also still using the medicated cream and Grace had a bath with bicarb soda in it and it has really made a difference. Fingers crossed that she'll be all clear in the next few days.

I keep Pharmacy Health Topical Antifungal cream in the medicine cupboard.
I've used it with MCN's & haven't had a problem. Its handy to have all the time.
I try to do a strip wash if there's been thrush :)

Ok - I've given up on the antifungal creams as it looks like just plain horrible nappy rash, also given up on the zinc creams as well so we are now back into MCN's. I'm trying the cornstarch on her bottom now and it looks like it is helping - yay :leap:

So, I'm thinking I might need to do a strip wash - the only problem is - how do I do it? I know people have talked about it but I have no idea how to do it myself... Can anyone help me out?

hun may i ask what are your mcn lined with?

when DD was that age i simply couldnt use anything other than natural liners (not that i realised for some time!) but - you might need to look for natural inners (bamboo and or cotton velour)

also you can use silk liners in her nappies - this got rid of dd's problems straight away. Many of the MCN stores sell them - I just did them on a seperate "hand wash" in the machine and hung them out before it did the spin cycle.

are you using cloth wipes on her bum? I also found that even the natural non chemical wipes gave DD a reaction - so moved on to plain water and a cloth.

between all that nappy rash basically dissapeared! and after a while i have found that i dont need to use the silk liners all the time either

Kitt3n - I've been trying to use my bamboo mostly but some of the liners are microfleece... I'll see if I can get some of the silk liners, I'm willint to try anything at the moment... I'm also using plain water and cloth to wipe, and a hairdryer to dry, which she just loves! waves her legs in the air and gurgles, so cute!

The Dr prescribed a stronger cream for her today, the rash just isn't clearning up and now she has one on her face :( I'm hoping something works soon as it is starting to bother her, poor little thing. We were using sposies but since there has been no change, I'm going back to my cloth.
