DD went from the safe and sound meridian to the maxirider AHR this year aged around 2yrs 3 months due to the impending arrival of bubs! that was in DH's car, but in my car she has only just gone into a maxi rider due to DD2 growing out of the capsule therefore needing the meridian, shes 2yrs 8 months
once they outgrow it. Jaidan is still in a car seat (turn a tot) and Chase is in a booster now and has been for the last year because he is heavier and taller then Jaidan.
My 2.5 yo DD is still in a full car seat, with the straps at the highest level. It will be a while until she grows out of it, so we are keeping her in it until we need it for the new baby, which won't be for a few months after she is born because we are hiring a capsule. So DD will be over 3 when we put her in a booster, probably with a harness as well.
Vy's head was above the top of her car seat so off into the booster she went. I jsut got a hi pod from target with the H harness...and I gotta say I wish I did it earlier. She use to always get her arms out of the car seat and it frustrated the crap our of me. NOw with the H harness she want move :D. Oh and she's 3 in septmeber :(
I noticed tonight Mateauz is taller then the car seat aswell :( so it looks like I have to get him in a booster with H harness aswell.....more money  he's 18 months
Ok, so is it when the head is higher than the back of the seat that they should move then? The whole head or just part of it?
VY's head was a good 2 2/12 inches higher then the top of the high seat......Me personally think that her head wouldnt be that protected being that tall IFYKWIM....Im paranoid over brain damage and having kids getting their heads hit
its eye level I believe.
I would move them before their head is halfway.... the neck needs some of the head to be covered...
Jovie just moved to the Maxi Rider and that is at 2 yrs 8 months as well. The Maxi Rider is from 14kg-28kg and has a 5 point harness holding them in.
Also, check with your states regulations or empending laws. In VIC now, the foam booster seats are only able to be used with children after a certain age (like 4 or 5?) and they have to stay in boosters until they are 7 years of age.
With NSW the laws will be changing in the next 12 months.
If you are going to be investing in a new booster or something, make sure its something that can go the distance with new regulations.
Charlie was 18months as he was just way too big, but we got the Maxi Rider that is a great seat so it didn't worry me moving him at that age. Though I might have to look into one of those H harness things, as he is now getting both his arms out no matter how tight we do the straps up.
The new laws will become national with in the next 18 months, and it is when the eye level is at the top of the seat, kid should be in a 5 point harness till around 4, they are also looking at changing the weight asweel to heavier.
My eldest went into a boster at 4 and she is tall for her age and my second dd went into one at 5 when she was to heavy for the harness bit.
My little bub is still in a capsule at 12 months so I think she will be at least 5 or more unless she takes of like a rocket.
My almost 6 year old DD is still in her Maxirider. We'll probably take the staps off and use a botlted in harness with the seatbelt on her birthday.
