How much have you spent on cloth?

im curious if the websites are about right, about the saving u make on buying cloth..... so if ya don't mind me asking...how much have you spent on cloth nappies and covers in total for 1 child or more please state if for more than one child or for how many months so far you been using.

do you use your dryer to dry them at all? occasionally, all the time, sometimes, NEVER?

I've lost track between buying and selling and having 2 in cloth now but it's probably around $1500. That also includes fabric to make nappies of which I can make them when the urge takes me. So the money has been spent already and I can keep making and probably don't "need" to but any more for Ruby. (That's not to say I won't IYKWIM lol).

We've been in full time cloth (besides the odd break or two) for coming up to 3 years. Caleb will be 3 in August and Ruby is just on 8 months.

My DS #1 didn't TT till he was 3.5 and was full time sposies since 6mths old so I reccon I'm in front easily. I would have spent more than that on his snugglers for sure! DS#2 was only ever in sposies and he TT'd at 2.5.

When the sites factor in the cost for disposable nappies they also include wipes and plastic nappy bags as part of it also ;)

we spent about $900 in total - that was about 45 nappies (some new some preloved) and covers.

used for 2 kids.

I have spent about $600, that is for nappies, covers and cloth wipes.

DD has been in full time cloth since she came home from hospital at 3 months of age, she is 14 months now. I have enough for 2 in cloth and what I have will last until TTing.

I do plan on buying some prefolds for baby on the way though and a few more covers, I plan on spending about $250.

Ohh and half of mine are pretty and practical ;) so I proberly could of saved some money if I went for practical and ditched the pretty!

ETA: As far as washing costs, I wash every second day (with DD's clothes, sheets, towels) and I air dry, we don't own a clothes dryer.
Washing liquid lasts for AGES! I think I spend $5 every 2 months or so!

i have 1 in cloth full time and has been in cloth fulltime since he was about 8 days old.
I have been known to 'finish off' the drying process in the dryer BUT only very rarely.

I bought a trial pack of ittis $50 +postage
BBH magicalls x 4 +wetbag around $100 +postage
then 5 seconds from itti bitti $100 +postage
and I have jut bought 2 second hand CTs totaling $35 +postage

I use the dryer, almost everytime :redface: but if the heaters on they go on the clothes horse in front of it! but we use the dryer for most of our stuff, nothing would get dry this time of year otherwise.
I only have enough for a day and a half in cloth, usually just use a sposie for night. has cut down the number of sposies used dramatically!

I think I'd have spent about $250ish? DS has only been in cloth since 13 months, but I think by now I'd have already spent that & more in sposies as I was buying Huggies. They worked the best for him.

I have also made a few of my own. I do still use disposeable wipes though. Need to make more cloth ones.

I can go 2 or more days without washing if needed as I have terry flats for back up, but usually wash every day or 2.

I dry the ones without PUL in the dryer often, or they all go on the rack in front of the fire. Takes twice as long on the line here atm.

I only got into MCN's with my last child so only bought 3 at a cost of about $60 (inc postage). But I bought a packet or maybe two of flats (flannel) for my first child at a cost of about $50. My mum sent down some terry nappies (about a dozen) and nylon triangle liners and pilchers. I only had to buy pins. I've also bought two packets of Snibs at a cost of about $20. :think: So all up I spent under $200. I used the flats pretty much full time with my first child for about 6 months... about 50% of the time with my second child and about 30% of the time with my 3rd child. I DEFINITELY saved a fortune. I bought x-large MCN's and my 3yo still occasionally wears them as his night time nappy when I run out of Pull Ups. I hardly ever used the tumble dryer.

I've only just started converting to cloth. I only have 10 MCNs (+ a few covers) so far, with 7 more coming in the mail next week :D. So far I think I've spent $400+??? DH's tax return was well spent ;). It seems like a lot of money, but I keep reminding myself that I can use them for the next bub, and the one after that, etc. Plus, sposies do cost a lot when you add it up over time.

I've kept a spreadsheet of what I have spent and buying different kinds of nappies to try out and then settling on a full time supply of Baby Beehinds Bamboo, I have spent $1400.

BBH are the best for us - I absolutely love them and wish that I had of just got them straight out but you dont know what is going to work on your baby without trying others out first. I bought heaps of boosters, more than I probably need but I figure they will get used more and more as Bub gets bigger.

Cushie Cushie Couture were my worst buy, they just dont fit my girl.

MIL made me heaps of cloth bum wipes so I didn't have to buy them, thankfully.

I realise that I've spent a lot - might have to ebay the rest of the CTs and the others that I dont use! :redface:

wow thanks for you honesty, we too prominently have bbh's and we are loving them even tho they are a cheaper happy they have worked for us i have not had the luxury of testing others out. but love the bbh especially as a night nappy sometimes we double boost with a fleece liner for the morning poop.

not much - maybe $200? like Bath I use flannel flats and covers (home mades that MIL bought procare for and sewed for me). I have a few BBH and bum genius but prefer the flats.

we actually got flannel for $2.50 a metre from spotlight....

I honestly can't remember. Maybe $800? That's a rough estimate. I started DS in larges (at 15 months) but I now have an almost complete stash from NB to Large. Way more than I need too.

We've spent $500-600. And she's been in cloth since a week old.

Thats on 30 small and 30 large, plus cloth wipes, boosters, and covers, and 6 dedicated night nappies. We only use cheap terry/cotton/flannelette fitteds, and we use boosters and good covers. We probably change more often but being a SAHM I don't find it an issue. My washing machine does all the work so the extra nappies makes no difference.

Would love some great quality nappies, would love some cute ones, but they aren't really in the budget.

OK, I have just added all this up. Maybe six hundred pounds. Maybe 700. No, won't be that much. Maybe 600.

DS is two and a half.

A disposable nappy is about 50p-?1 a nappy. So that's say 1000 disposables. As DS is over 500 days old I've saved money. (He wears more than two nappies a day, btw!)

My stash:
Baby nappies: 5 Sandys, 40 flats with 6 covers, 6 bamboo with 2 covers, 3 AIOs.
Toddler nappies: 12 bamboo with 6 covers, 5 motherease fitted one-size, 13 flats with 5 covers and 4 stuffable covers, 3 other stuffables, 1 AIO, 4 motherease AI2s, 5 hemp with 2 covers.

Also about 30 liners.

However, 2 motherease AI2s, one stuffable and my toddler AIO have been "lost" by nursery. 10 of the bamboo nappies were quite cheap and only lasted a year of constant wear before the elastic started to go. I dislike the motherease and sandys fitted nappies, but they were free. Oh and I have a load of unused nappies too that I was going to sell. So about 10 more baby-size nappies.

I'll probably buy more AIOs if I have another baby.
