If you had to pick your favourite story/book what would it be and why?
I love the Austen/Bronte books and until Twilight came out, it would have been a toss up between Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.
Just an old romantic I am.

Oooooh, I do love Jane Eyre! But my favourite has to be Anne of Green Gables. Love it to pieces!
TBH, I never realised how much I loved it until I realised that DS just wouldn't "get" Anne as a girl would. I need a daughter to share this with! (Honestly, Anne of Green Gables was why I started thinking that a girl in the family may be a good thing!)
Anne of Green Gables and Little Women are my all time favourties. I still get angry when Amy goes and marries Laurie! grr.
Really? I didn't mind Amy marrying Laurie. But I cry buckets every time Beth dies.
As well as Little Women, I also love What Katy Did, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. C19 books for pre-teens rock!
my all time favourite book has got to be 'The time travellers wife' by author Audrey Niffenegger. It is the most beautiful, amazing, saddest every emotion under the sun greatest books. totally captivated my every emotion and was so inspiring and beautiful to read. i really hope if you haven't yet read it that you do ..lol!! the movies version is coming to cinemas in november i think the trailer is absolutly beautiful got verry teary but nothing compared to the book! :)
my fav is The Cider House Rules. such a good read. i love it.
My favaourite book is Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty. It is really funny but also a gorgeous story about sisters. Having three sisters myself, everytime I read it, it reminds me of them as well as giving me a good laugh. The first time I read it, I sat on the couch and read all day - obviously in my pre-baby days. Sigh..how I miss the ability to sit and lose myself in a book for hours sometimes!
My fave is One Child by Torey Hayden
I really don't think I could only choose one book as my absolute fave - I have far too many that are close to my heart for different reasons that it is just impossible.
I know exactly what you mean! My girls LOVE Anne as much as I do. I get so much joy out of talking about Anne with them. They have only seen the mini series though, we actually had an Anne of Green Gables marathon one Sunday. DD1 is reading the book now. It took me months to be able to trust her with my beloved book
Corduroy. I still love it.
ooh too many to pick just one! I love my fantasy series. Harry Potter will always be fave i reckon! Closely followed by The Witches of Eileanan series and The Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies. LOL told yas i can't pick!
where is the green sheep?
The Bronze Horseman trilogy by Paulina Simons... Huge books, but... sigh.. such romantic passion! Such drama! Such violence!
I devour books in my down time.. and I was a book work as a kid.. I hope my little one takes after me and not his/her daddy.. he hasn't picked up a book since it was a compulsory thing to do at Uni!
I'm an avid reader and can't choose either but i'll see if i can work on a top 10.
In no particular order:
The Narnia Chronicals by C.S Lewis
The Church Mice series by Graham Oakely
The Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling
The Hairy Maclary and Friends series by Lynley Dodd
The Beatrix Potter collection
The Magic Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton
Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carrol
Actually... one book does stand out: The Valley Of Secrets by Charmain Hussey. Totally magical... highly recommended. My most recent discovery.
If anyone wants free e-books, Anne of Green Gables and all the follow-on books (and loads more) are available via project guttenburg. It's fantastic!
I'll be buying my children their own copy of Anne because mine is too old and fragile. I tend to read the e-book now because mine is a bit too well-read!
