TMI baby poo question
DD is 3 months old, fully breast-fed and will now poo only once a day, sometimes only once in 2 or 3 days. Today she's been pooing every few hours and the last few have been really weird... here comes the TMI!! Rather than the usual orangey-yellow liquid, they're greenish, chunky and have a consistency that's almost like mucus (quite thick and viscose).
She seems well enough - no temp, feeding well etc. but I just worry that this might be a sign of infection.
Any ideas?

yes, when my baby had the same, the paed said it is a virus. keep an eye on and make sure getting enough fluids. The poo normally has a horrible smell as well.
-
Thanks MissH. Was your baby very unwell? Any other symptoms?
-
No other symptoms. Just the poo and it lasted about 3 days. Get her checked by the GP if you are concerned. Always better when they are so young.

It could be from fast let down. Meaning baby is getting more fore milk & not enough hind milk. (I think thats how it works.)
Maybe you could express off a bit before feeding?
-
Kat - Bailey has done the same - reverts to pooing each feed, instead of a few times a day, and its been like mushed up stringy green lettuce - but then it has gone back to yellow after a few feeds. I have read in the Baby Love book that BF poo's can be - Quote "can be bright coloured (like pumpkin), seeded dark yellow, dark green and mucosy ore lettuce green - all normal"
-
Thanks bjrose. That would make sense as she's been fussing at the boob a bit today and has more frequent, shorter feeds (thus getting more foremilk)
Thanks to you to Naomi. I'm beginning to think I should get that book - it seems to be the source of lots of answers to my odd baby questions. Either that or I'll just keep getting you gals to look things up for me!

LOL - save ya money Kat and just get me to look it up hehehee
