Hi ladies,
the renovations are continuing :rolleyes: and this weekend we're getting our floors sanded and polished (the tough one, think its called 2 pac acrylic). Has anyone had this done before?? How bad are the fumes??
I'm planning to stay at my mums until monday (its getting done on saturday), but someone told me i should stay out of the house for atleast a week because i'm pregnant.. is this true???
any input would be great!!!

I had to stay out of my house for way more than a week, the fumes were SO strong.
But I'm sure we had a discussion on floor sealing once before and some girls said it wasn't as strong, some said it was terrible.
I'd stay out for a week either way.
2 pac is the stinky chemical one.
There is a better water based one that is just as strong, and that one the smell isn't as bad or last as long.
I wasn't pregnant when we had our floors done but the smell lingered for around 8 days. We only had the Master Bedroom done so we kept the doors in there closed the windows slightly opened and stuffed towels under the door to stop the fumes escaping.
See how you go, after a week go back and see how bad it is then if you need to stay away a few more days.

i just spoke to DH, he used to work as a floor sander/polisher.
he said the 2 pac stuff (which is the stuff that we had our house done in before he went into that line of work) is the old school stuff and is VERY VERY strong, he recommended at least a week before going in there, but he said the water based one is much better and looks a whole lot nicer (this is the one he wishes he had the house done in) and isnt quite as strong, of course no matter which way you go, there will def be fumes tho.

I remembered the name! it's been bugging me all morning. We used "Cabot's All Clear" (water based) when we did the floors. i love the old hardwood floors, i renovated a 100+ house and took up carpet and lino and found the most amazing raw wood floors.

Looks like i'm going to have to pack a lot more than i originally intended! I'll ask the guys doing them about the water based coatings too, thanks for the tip.
*groan* a week with my mother.... as much as i love her i can tell its going to be a loooonngg week :rolleyes:
