Steam Vapourizers????
DS2 is really sick with a shocking head cold caused by a virus... can't breathe, sleep or feed. He is miserable!
I was going to buy a vapourizer to help clear his head but a friend who is a nurse said not to as they grow bugs due to the wet/heat
WDYT? Do they work? are they germ factories? What CAN I do instead?

I don't imagine they'd grow bugs if you kept them clean? I didn't notice any problems with ours.
Are you raising the head of his cot slightly, maybe put a pillow or towels under the mattress to raise it a bit. Also, have you tried Fess? You drop the saline drops in their nose and also use the suction thing to suck any goop from their nose so they can breathe.
Some humidifiers also have a recess near the steam vent where you can drop some essential oil, I think I used a drop of Eucalyptus oil at times. And I used Eukybear rub on his chest a bit too. Mostly because I love the smell. :p
What else...keep his fluids up, try to watch your use of split system heaters, and even the ducted heating can cause problems, our boys have their duct in their room only very slightly open, just to take the chill off.
Even sitting him in a rocker in the bathroom while you have a hot steamy shower will help.
(Can you tell I've also had a bub with a chronic cold before? :p)

Thanks Nelle... have been doing the Fess' ... doesn't seem to help that much. Cot is raised for his reflux, but he won't even let us lay him down. He slept in our arms all night last night (no we didn't sleep)... think I will try the shower thing now so I can get a shower LOL!

We have a vapouriser, and it's fantastic. It is recommended that you regularly clean them, and as long as you do, there'll be no nasties.
