Q about side effects of 12-month needles

When can I expect them?

She had them yesterday at midday, and apart from being a bit more cranky then usual at bedtime (which is also because she didn't sleep yesterday :rolleyes: not unusual) theres been nothing. The nurse went on a huge dramatic spiel about rashes and fevers and out-of-this world crankiness, but as yet nothing out of the ordinary. If anything it was a fairly good night only woke 3-4 times.

She has reacted fairly typically to the other needles, so this one is a bit of a surprise!

Has anyone else gotten through the 12-month needles easily? Or is this the calm before the storm? lol

We didn't have any adverse reaction at all apart from a low grade temp. I don't think all kids get the extreme reactions, sounds like the nurse was just being over cautious.

DS1 had no more of a reaction than he did to any of his other immunisations, mild temp and a little more cranky than usual.

My eldest three all came out in a rash a week after the vaccinations. I actually called the hospital and asked about it, because it did look like measles and I was already pg again at the time when the older two had it done and they said it was fine, that it can take a few days to a week to come out, so she may be fine now, but if she does come out in a rash it's fine and not contagious.

Thanks everyone :) Still no side-effects, but good to know it can take up to a week, I definitely would have freaked LOL!

Yeah it sure does freak you out if you aren't expecting it. The information I was then given was that it can take 7-10 days for any rash to appear. Would have been nice to get that to start with.

None of my four kids ever had any reaction to any of their needles...not every baby has a reaction.:D

Will it matter if she is just getting over a cold?

Other than a slight fever and a little crankiness for about 48 hours my twins had no other side effects from their 12 month needles.

DayDream, not sure about the cold, I think the best person to ask is the GP before they do the vacs. Shel and I both have pretty nasty colds/flu at the moment but GP lookde Jazz over, said she was perfect, no reason not to get them done.

Just an update - no side-effects yet, not even a temp. One of her injection sites is very red but it doesn't seem to be bothering her, and she is her usual cheeky self. :D Hopefully we come out of this with nothing! It's very unusual considering the other vacs she's gotten have caused crankiness and fevers for the next 48 hours... :dunno:

Just thought I'd post about the cold for Daydream Believer...if you're worried on the day, just ask the nurse to take bub's temperature before the shots. My Dr said its hard to get babies 100% well for injections, and the only thing that is worth worrying over is a fever...

They just said as long as she doesnt have a fever on the day. So she got them done this morning

We took them pretty well also slighly more cranky and slight temp that was all.

Hope she goes as smoothly as Jazz has (so far) :)
