Hi girls
Have any of you tried a Mirena?
If so did it help wit the pain? Did you gain weight?
These are my 2 main worries with the Mirena.
I am trying to get rid of being in constant pain as the pain medication is interacting with my other medication.
Any experience with the mirena would be good as I need to hear the good and the bad about the Mirena.

I haven't used the Mirena, I am currently in the same dilema as you though, deciding whether it would be beneficial to go on Synarel for my endo (which was removed).
Hopefully someone will come along soon to give you some advice.
I had one put in on December 5 last year and had it taken out on April 24 this year. It really didn't work for me - I had more pain than I did without it, I bled for 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off - sometimes only 2 weeks off. The bleeding wasn't terribly heavy but bleeding for that long is a major nuisance. I had some serious water retention and bloating issues - I would put on up to 4kg during a bleed. I hated the mere thought of sex, couldn't loose weight and just felt completely out of control of my body while I had it in. It also moved completely inside my uterus which it isn't supposed to do so I had to have it removed via D&C under a general anaesthetic. So I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, BUT some women have had wonderful results with it and it really is an individual thing as to how well it works for you or not and you wont know unless you have one put in.

Reading your post reminded me that we talked before about it. As another Dr wanted me to have one in and she put it in my file that I was totaly against it. (I get on really well with my new Gyn)
My new gyn sugested it and told me the up's about it ...bla bla bla.... You will not know how it will go with you until you have tried it. But I told her with my history of if anything will go wrong it happens to me.
I just want to get rid of the constant pain I am in at the moment, I DON"T need more pain. I couldn't remember all of your symtoms why you got it removed only that it went into the wall of your uterus.
Have you asked your Gyn about Asherman's Syndrome?? Alot of Gyn will not use those words they say "Scaring of the Uterus" but that is what AS is. It can cause more problems but it can also be silent, a bit like endo.
How do you feel now it is out and its been a few months??

That's right we did talk about it before! Not really sure how I'm feeling about things now it's out. I mean I love that I know exactly where my cycle is at at any given time, I know when I ovulate and I certainly don't feel out of control anymore, but the bleeds I have had since coming off have been quite bad - super heavy bleeding with loads of clots - I would be in the shower and it would be running down my leg and I just passed clot after clot in the shower cause I guess the warm water on my stomach helped? dunno... Anyway the one after that wasn't too bad - really heavy again but no clots like last time and no pain again either. The one I have just had took 4 days to get to full flow and while not as heavy as it had been the pain I had from time to time made me feel like vomiting it was that bad - I haven't had pain like that in years.
I'm not really sure where I should go next with it because I don't know what other solutions there can be kwim. I certainly don't want more birth control to treat it. I guess they really try to flog the mirena as an option as it's supposedly low maintenance and lasts for years.

Well I have been given the choice to have a Mirena or just keep on doing what I am doing at the moment.
So I am going to give the Mirena a go. I am going to give it 6 months. If I have less pain :pray: and less bleeding :pray:. I will be happy. But if I start gaining weight or have more pain I am going to get it out asap.
Is 6 months long enough???
Has anyone got any thoughts or experiences on the Mirena??? Good or bad I would love to hear what happened to you..

I'm getting one put in soon too so I'll be watching to see how yours go. Fingers crossed it helps you and you are more comfortable.
i had the mirena in twice.
first time i kept it for 2 years, was great. light blled only spottting every 6 weeks.
no pain only slight tightenings about a week before i bled, panadol was enough, i was on tramal and stronger stuff for constant pain missed weeks of school from pain.
after 2 years my body decided it needed a break and the pain came back but then i had my bubba girl and all was ok for 12 mkonths post.
got it back in and got it out 6 months later as we decided to start trying for another baby sooner than we thought we wanted to. :D
i didt gain weight had the best skin ever. the hormones agreed with me for once.
i tried every pill and the implanon and i am getting the mirena in again after this bub well once they are 6 months old anyway..

Well I have it in, was a but uncomfortable geting it. I am in no more pain than I am normaly in at the begining of the cycle and I have got a bit of a "show" (panti liner needed).
I just hope that the pain will go and AF will get lighter. :pray:
My iron is low and I can't take Iron tablets as the pan fort is clogging the system already:rolleyes:. I am not haveing a good time at the moment.

Liviam let me know how you go with the Mirena. I didn't get any cramping after it was put in but then agian I was already in pain and had pan forte in my system. Make sure you take a pad as I was at the end of my AF (last day of AF) and wasn't expecting the bleed I had after it was put in.

i had the mirena put in in jan 09 - under general but i had a d&c aswell. i had pain and bleeding for 4 weeks but i got a infection in my womb.
since then iv noticed a massive difference. before i had it i would bleed for 12 weeks straight...not when i had it in.
everything settled down at the 6 month mark. iv lost about 2 stone not put it on.
iv got pain and problems form adhesions and endo and pcos and am morphine for pain relief.

I am sorry to hear that you got an infection. Have you any problems since having the infection as I know it can cause Ashermans Syndrome. I know some women who have had this happen. To check the uterus lining for Ashermans you need to have a hysteroscopy.
I have to use morphine also, I am constanly in pain with the changes during my cycle. I hope that this will change and the Mirena will stop the pain, or at least lessen the pain.
Has the Mirena lessened your pain??
