Irritable uterus?
Hi everyone
Does anyone have any experience of an irritable uterus?
I am 31 wks preg with twins and getting what I can only presume are BH contractions, but the issue is that they are frequent and regular. I don't have any other major symptoms of pre-term labour (ie no show, no fluid, no bleeding and only very mild 'period' type pain and back pain).
I was in hosp for 4 days about a fortnight ago because of these contractions, and have been on modified bedrest since coming home. The contractions are still coming thick and fast though - I am not counting every single one throughout the day and night, but I am counting for about 3 hours each day, and I am generally having between 8 and 10 an hour.
The midwife at the hospital said it's very likely I have an irritable uterus. I've looked this up, and it does sound like what I'm experiencing.
My question is I suppose, has anyone else been diagnosed with this, how was it treated, and did you carry to term?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, I had irritable uterus and went into labour at 33wks but was given steroids and tablets (can't remember what they are called) which stopped the labour. I continued with pre-labour up until 39wks. Certainly if the contractions get more regular or painful ring your midwife and get yourself checked out. Try and rest as much as you can. Wishing you all the best and hope your bubs stay in there for a while longer yet.

Hi Dianne
Thx for your response.
I am actually in hosp now with p/t labour. Like you, have had steroid shots and am taking nifedipine to stop the contracs. Seems to be making them less frequent so far, which is a great relief.
Hoping to keep them cooking for quite a few more weeks yet!

hey Jen,
I had it with Lilli, she came at 37wks, after 6wks of constant contractions, i dilated to 3cm by the time i was 36wks. I actually found that it made going from 4cm-10cm dilated very quick!!!
Im glad you have had the shots hun. Rest up sweety, and keep those boys baking for a few more wks!!!

Hi Jen, glad your contractions are lessening and praying that your babies will stay in your tummy a little longer. I was like Rach, already 3cm dilated and had a quick labour of 2hrs. Hope you get lots of rest and please keep us informed. Take care hun.
Regards,
Dianne

hi ladies
thanks for your support.
all is well still. nifedipine seems to be doing the trick. I'm still contracting every 10 mins or so, but only very mild. Getting a yucky headache from it though. And really not sleeping. I think I have only slept about 7 hours over the past 3 days, so may have to take some temazepam apparently.
My ob came to see me yesterday and really explained things well to me, so I am not as anxious anymore, which makes it easier to all deal with. It also helps that I am over the 31 week mark, so that if they did happen to come early, they have a very good chance of being absolutely fine.
Anyhow, thanks for your thoughts. I really appreciate it.
