After party for Christening/Baptism Questions

DD is getting christened at a church that is no where near my house. I am thinking of having everyone drive5 minutes down to Balmoral Beach in Sydney (which is more like a Bay with a massive park) for a light lunch afterwards. I was thinking of doing fish and chips but thought this could get a bit expensive and not sure if I feel comfortable asking people to buy there own.

Okay so a couple of questions....

How many people did you invite? Did you have many of your friends or mainly family?

What food do you think I should serve? Remembering this will be in a park and I will have to transport all the food from my house.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

For my 3 girls, we had the whole family and friends - which worked out to about 70people.
If it's just going to be a light lunch, how about some sandwich platters. You could either make them up yourself or have a caterer do it. I'm not sure if you have a Subway near you, but i think they do platters for functions. Or ou could do Ham/chicken and salad rolls.

Hey, I hear you there. DH has a massive family, we had 90 for our DD christening. We found a buffet place (within an RSL club) it was all you could eat. Everyone bought cakes with them so I didnt have to worry about dessert. Dessert was part of all you could eat, everyone was into the ice cream. I heard so many people say they were full and would be interested in dinning there again. (little did they know it was only $20 a head hehe)

Im Greek and I have been to some x ie Christenings. Its about a the service not the food. SIL did a ****tail thing and it cost $40 a head and there was like 130 people! NUTS! If we have another then it will be really really small!

How many people were you looking at having? Do you have favourate restaurant that you can organise a good price for a set menu.

Love the sandwich platter idea. I think there is a subway near the church so I could just get my mum or someone to pick them up after the ceremony and bring them down.

We did just immediate family plus a few so 20 in total and then went to a restaurant for a set menu lunch. But for DS's 1st Birthday we had same number at our place and did Red Rooster - chicken hot and cut up, chips and salads with some bread rolls from the baker. We also did sausages etc. Easy and not too expensive.
