8 months, still not rolling...

DS will be 8 months soon and is still not rolling over. I`m not really concerned....but perhaps I should be starting to?
He seems well with his development so far and bear weight on legs very well (and has done since a few months old), but he is not rolling whether he is put on tummy or back.
We give him tummy time most days and I have been getting down on ground with him to help encourage him (he hate being on his tummy ). He rolls over sort of if I help him, but he seems fairly stiff and not making the effort himself - its like it doesnt ocur to him to try.

Hi Salsa... I think if you are starting to get worried then you should look into things, even if it's just for your own peace of mind.

Sam finally figured out the rolling thing when he was about 7 months old. He then did it for about a week and has simply stopped now to focus on other things (like sitting up and trying to con mum or dad into supporting him while he stands).

I don't know if your little boy is like Sam - very calm and laid back and content to look at things rather than interact? Sam just had very little motivation to move (he's still like this) and we found that he wouldn't actually even TRY to roll until he'd got quite upset with being on his back/tummy and wanted to change... We'd usually have come and picked him up before he got upset enough to really give it a go. It's a very odd feeling - having to let your baby get upset and frustrated enough to actually try to do what he wants, but it seems to be the only way to motivate this child to move! Putting toys out of his reach doesn't work as he's happy enough to just look rather than touch.

I know I haven't really given you any answers - I just didn't like seeing your post with no responses! I know how worrying it can be to be in your situation.

I might try what you`ve suggested - letting him get more upset!
He cries and we leave him maybe only a minute before we pick him up again. I have tried the toys being put just within reach but it dosent work. He maybe needs to just tough it out some more... I know he will get upset though, hmmm.... maybe its the tough love approach he needs?

Since having a child who has done most physical milestones after others I have learnt not to worry!! It doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned if something is wrong .ie your son's body doesn't seem delveloped properly or he has low muscle tone but if he simply isn't doing a skill I wouldn't stress too much!

DD rolled at 5 months (pretty normal), crawled at 13 months (late!) and walked at 19months (late too!)

Friend's daughter rolled at 9 months, crawled at 10 months then walked at 12 months!

Another friend's daughter rolled at about 9 months, crawled at 12 month and walked at 17 months.

I used to worry all the time but looking back it was more her personality - she's pretty laid back and relaxed that stopped her from doing these things. If I had noticed her not being able to hold her head or she was in pain then I would have got her checked out.
