Baby carrier for summer
Hi everyone,
I'm having my second baby in late spring and i'm looking for a baby carrier to use in the hotter weather. I had my first baby in late spring too and used a baby bjorn original, but it hurt my back and i think it was too hot for him as well. After he was six months i went onto the Ergo and that was great, but i'm looking for something that is good for babies up to six months in warm weather. I thought the close baby carrier looked good, but would that be too warm? I'm not sure i'm keen on a sling, i like the idea of even spread support. Also, do most people buy their baby carriers off the net? It seems most of the baby stores seem to stock just the baby bjorn or cheaper versions of it.
Also, just one more thing while i'm here. I carried my son until he was 18 months old and people would always say 'oh isn't he heavy?' blah blah negative. I felt like i had to constantly justify carrying my baby while getting these sympathetic looks! If only they knew how lovely and easy it is. On another note though, i did sometimes get positive comments from people too which was always nice
Thanks,
Jess

Hi Jess,
I have a Franklyn & Spencer Tyion sling (might have to google it). Its like a Hug-a bug. I haven't looked at a HAB so I don't know how different the material is but this more like a cotton t-shirt material. I haven't used it in summer but I find it so comfortable that I'm going to and I will jsut have to see how it goes. I'm guessing that by summer, bub will just be in a singlet & nappy so I might feel it more than her? Shall have to see...
I love baby wearing too, and I too get a mix of 'ooh that looks lovely' and 'argh, isn't she heavy?' - I just smile and say no.

I am due in Spring and have bought a Close Carrier, I havent got to use it yet so can't give you any feedback but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm no expert, but I'd think in the warmer weather you'll find any sling warm. I'd probably just go for the sling that sounds like it suits your lifestyle best and make sure you and bubs aren't overdressed.
I think most people buy slings online, but there are shops that stock different ones (my local Babies Galore sells Baby Bjorn, Ergo, Peanut Shell & Baba Slings - but they are more pricey to buy from there). Alternatively, you may come across them at markets or baby expos. GL!!

Thanks guys, you made some good points. I think i'll try the close baby carrier, after reading all the things people have said about them, and the fabric looks so comfortable. Yeah, when people asked if my baby was heavy i would just explain that the carriers are ergonomically designed etc and they actually seemed quite interested! I'm so looking forward to carrying a baby again.

The close is made from cotton so it is nicely breathable. I got one for my new baby due in Summer. I suggest making sure the carrier you choose is natural fabric, like cotton, which should be best. Good luck with choosing a carrier.
I have a thread on this from a month or so ago... I will find it for you... Here tis...

I just tried to PM you a link to the website I got my sling from but you don't have enough posts. If you are interested, PM me when you are able (not sure how many posts you need to be able to PM 10 or 20) and I'll send you the details.

I just bought an Ergo Sport for summer but have an "ABA Easy Sling" which is wwwaaaayyyy cooler to wear, even more so than the Ergo Sport.
