13m old with weeping eczema - what worked for you? PLEASE HELP!

Hi All,

my 13m DS has quite a bad patch of eczema on his back with one spot now weeping. I feel like i've tried everything. This isn't the first time he's had this. I managed to get rid of it the first time, but now it just won't seem to budge. I'm trying to avoid using the steroid creams, but i'm getting desperate and feeling bad for him that it's now weeping.

Here's what I'm doing so far:
Fish Oil (internally)
Probiotics
Homoeopathics
Using a wheatgrass cream and curash powder, bathing him in Medula (natural) range.
Have changed my washing powder, eliminated wheat with no change
Have also tried PawPaw, Colloidal Silver cream,

Any advice would me much appreciated. I have a script for Advantan Fatty Ointment but really don't want to use it if I can possibly help it.

My DS has a weeping wrist and i use sorbolene cream (alot of it too) and it helps clear it up....then returns if i stop putting cream on. Every nappy change and shower i apply more cream.

Have you tried applyih cream, then putting glad wrap over the weeping spot? That helps too, leave it on overnight.

He showers with me, water only, except baby shampoo on his hair.

get advice from a GP. they probably have something to heal it up and then once flare up is over you can use all the natural stuff.

Oh i know how you feel, my DD gets it on her feet and it drives her insane. We've been using paw paw ointment and it seems to be working a treat. Its still definately there, but it hasn't flared up for about 3 weeks now *touchwood*.
I've got a dr appointment with the dermatologist next weekend, if i'll remember i'll post any tips that he gives me. Good luck

We use Becoderm intense moisturising cream on his back where he gets it quite bad and also paw paw ointment on the backs of his knees. What brand of pawpaw ointment are u using? because Lucas Paw Paw ointment has petrochemicals in it. When I found out I felt ripped off and quite angry but apparently there are no laws stating that the have to say it on the packaging. So we are using PURE NUTRACEUTICALS Pawpaw ointment. Is is in a black tube with red writing on it. all that with QV moisturiser seems to work quite well at keeping it at bay once he's had a breakout. Try the Becoderm it's really intense and you don't need to use much to get a result. Usually only takes a day or 2 for Cohen's "spots" to dissapear depending on how bad they are.

QV make a ointment called Egoderm. I use it on my eczema and on DS's and also on his bum when he was teething and it does/did wonders. You can get it in the chemist and there is a blue or orangey/creamy coloured boxes they come in and I get the orangey/creamy coloured one.

Have you taken your DS to the Dr to make sure that it is not a fungal infection maybe cause that might need something abit more strong and poweful!?!?!?

My last really bad outbreak was before I got married, on the back of my knees. I ended up using Advantin and wrapping in cling wrap to keep the area moist. It only took a day or two to make a real difference, then I kept it under control with less harsh things. Cool baths only, pat dry and plenty of moisturiser are all good ideas. I've also tried a sock full of oats in a warm bath (not hot though). The fish oil and probiotics are also great ideas.

devil's advocate here - if it was me, I'd just use the advantan. My DS has had persistent ezcema and I've been trying a number of the same things as you. So saying, I've also used the advantan and found it really good! I understand you want to try and stick to the natural things, but from what i've read, if you leave the eczema too long that also damages the skin... so it's the catch 22 - use the nasty strong cream or weaken the skin from all the flared up eczema. IMO you're better off using a strong cream for a short time rather than leaving it to drag on for months.

have you tried alpha keri oil in the bath? Thats great too. Tepid water not hot. Hot agrivates it all.

It's so awful to watch them suffering. I was (and still am) like you in that I wanted to stay completely away from any type of steroid or other chemical cream. I literally have a large shoebox full of every type of natural treatment available - I spent hundreds.
Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore and got her a tube of Elocon prescribed. I only had to use it for a day and a half and it was nearly gone.
That was when she was about 10m from memory, and since then I have been able to keep it under control with Moo Goo and very occasionally I use the weakest dermaid cream (I think that's what it's called) which is available over the counter.

thanks everyone. i had to fold and use the advantin. I just felt so sorry everytime i looked at it, and more of it was starting to weep so I had to cave just to get on top of it. It's pretty much all gone which is great. And I'll just continue with all the other stuff to help keep it away.

Have also just changed ds onto Goats milk too, so maybe no more formula may help?

I had a horrrible patch of psoriasis on my leg for about a year, I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it (i work in a chemist, so literally tried everything!) The only thing that worked for me was MOOGOO milk wash and MSM cream moisturiser! It is absolutely brilliant and it is all i use now.
