ok so I have started researching for our next holiday. It is still 2-3 yrs away but I want to be well researched
Not sure which way we will be going but we will eventually end up in WA. Either at the top or bottom..
anyways tell me the MUST sees of WA and SA so I can add to my ever growing list
I have looked at Broome and Esperence and Streaky bay in Sa and been told Voctor Harbour is a must..
what else :)
We have only been to Perth for a week but loved it and want to go back
Rottnest island is a must see, just stunning!!
Also enjoyed Fremantle.

Well, first of all, I'M in WA ;) LOL
Broome is gorgeous, but actually really expensive, because its a tourist town.
I would REALLY recommend Albany - I would move there if I could! Its about 4 hrs out of Perth, and, although it's starting to grow, it's still got a 'country' feel to it. Until about 5 years ago, there weren't even any traffic lights, only roundabouts! It's on the coast, so you've got great beaches that are pretty safe for kiddies - Emu Point is pretty sheltered, so it doesn't get big swells.
There's also HEAPS of natural attractions. You've got The Gap and Natural Bridge - part of the coast where the rock has been worn away over time, and the ocean comes screaming into a wedge in the coast line. On a stormy day you'll get wet from the spray in the carpark! The Natural Bridge is literally a bridge that's been formed over time, with a little cove now open to the sea. Some tourists go down into the cove, but I really wouldn't recommend it, as the water doesn't always come up, but when it does, it's very fast.
There's Whaleworld, one of the last operating whaling stations in Australia. It teaches the kids about what used to happen, and why we stopped. The old Fort, an army base from the war. Plus heaps of photo opportunities with natural scenery - we took 300 photos on our 10 day trip, and only 25 of those were us!

I agree, Albany is a really neat holiday destination, more laid back but so much to see and do. You can also venture to Denmark and Walpole from Albany and see Elephant Rocks (ummm as the name says, a heap of rock formations that look like a herd of elephants marching into the sea) and the Valley of the Giants treetop walk.
If you work your way back up to Perth you can go caving around Margaret River, or the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse in Augusta where the Indian and Southern oceans meet. I love our south west coast!
I guess it really depends on what you're looking for in a holiday.....hustle and bustle or more laid back cruising around....
As for SA, I know it's a bit gimmicky but I absolutely love the town of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. It's a german kind of town with heaps of neat shops and places to eat. If you go be sure to go right to the end of the main street and stop at the Chocolate #5cafe place - I still dream about going back there for a piece of their cheesecake lol Or you could go to the cheese factory, or the german bakery....hmmm you get my drift lol
Can't speak for WA, but in SA - I would recommend Hahndorf (as HB did) and Victor Harbor is nice too. Depends what you're into really...
Kangaroo Island is another top choice - although I say this from hearsay (haven't been there yet myself - but it's on my 'to do' list!).
Barossa Valley is nice (and so is the Clare valley) - especially if you're into wines, but even if you're not.
Robe is good for a beach town - especially if you're into fishing & seafood.
Mannum's a lovely little spot for a stopover (excellent meals at the Pretoria) and Old Tailem Town is great to take the kids to.
Our Zoos are excellent - can really recommend the Monarto Zoo (Open range zoo).
There's the Pitchi Richi railway up at Pt Augusta, the opal fields at Andamooka and Coober Pedy, there's the Flinders Ranges for nature lovers and Streaky Bay for oysters...
If you can give me an idea of what would interest you, I can give you ideas on where to find that in SA! Been here for 32 years... :o
Rottnest Island is awesome, great for kids, you can do bike riding, beach, lots of tours and you can see quokkas! but if your planning on going in summer u need to book accomodation ages ahead (i remember one year we rang 6 months early and it was all booked out!) HTH

I am still undecided as whether to do WA and SA in the one trip or break it up and do it over 2 holidays..
What we like is this.. Family orientated activities, museums. Not really into the theme park type things just yet.
Love beach walks and mountain walking.. lots of nature things. Love scenery

they have lots of tours for families, bike riding/lots of walks where u can discover the quokkas and great hidden beaches, everyones so laid back its awesome!
Rotto is great. I personally LOVE margaret river, I would go on every holiday to there if I could. There are lots of museums and historical things to see in Freo. The swan valley is really beautiful too- there is whiteman park out that way which has a few things to see and do, and some great playgrounds for the kids.
