Bump on the head at bedtime

Yep, that emoticon pretty much says it all...

Jazz has started running, and ran smack bang into a doorway, and now has a lovely purple lump on her forehead.

13HEALTH is useless and said if I'm concerned go to the hospital. Ok, I'm not really concerned, I just want a straight answer...

Do I let her go to sleep or not?

She has no signs of concussion. No loss of consciousness or vomiting or anything else. Her pupils are even. Her lump isn't getting bigger or worse. She's cranky, but thats because its bed time.

Do we need to keep her awake? Do we need to wake her during the night?

Bloody 13HEALTH gave me the same answer, but do they seriously expect me to sit around for hours in the ER at Caboolture on a Saturday night? Just to hear someone tell me she is fine (which I'm sure she is).

How long ago did it happen?

either way i think she will be fine to go to sleep - if she isnt acting normally, not vomiting and is walking, talking and playing normally than all should be good! just keep an eye on her!
That advice is comming from a 000 QAS phone operator - although i have been on leave for a bit! hehehe ;-)

i have often gone on concusion watch with my little one after a fall or head bump.
All i do is every 2 or so hours i would just lightly brush her side or face and if she stirred i wasnt concerned.

I know it makes for a long night - but for peace of mind, i dont care about being up all night.

Leash, I heard recently that current advice is that if they seem well and are behaving normally then it's fine to let them sleep. But I only heard that from a friend, so you might not want to take my word for it!!!

Personally, if it were my DS I would put him to bed if he seemed fine. Does she still wake frequently during the night? If she does then you can guarantee that tonight she will sleep a bit longer, giving you the willies :lol: and you'll feel the need to go and wake her up! But seriously, you can do as a PP said and check on her periodically through the night (if she isn't waking herself ;)).

Thanks :) It happened about 90 minutes ago, she had a bath and a play, seeemed fine so we let her go to bed, she's been asleep about 5 minutes.

Yep she is usually up, so long nights here mostly anyway, nothing different lol. Will do the 2 hour thing :) Thanks everyone :hug: It'sd the first time she did it. If it didn't hurt her I would have laughed, she has started running but doesn't really know how to turn corners when she gets speed up LOL so she just went BANG straight into it. I shouldn't giggle, but... it was kind of comical LOL

If I kept Jack up every time he bumped his head he'd never go to bed!! LOL

Awww my poor little Jazzling! Sounds like she's all good Leash. Oskar's first bump was a B E A U T Y! Smack bang in the middle of his forehead, ran into the one of the pillar things for the stairs lol... ummmm go around it silly! He's had some really mega hard bumps but has been ok. I think they're little heads are a lot harder than we think. :hug: to you both. Oh and I hear ya on the Caboolture ER on a Sat night... I wouldn't recommend it on ANY night there!

Leash, I thought of you last night, DS got a shocking bump on his head, right at bedtime LOL!!!! He was okay, but he had a shocking sleep :rolleyes: (unrelated, I'm sure) so I knew he was okay!

Leash - how was Jazzy last night and how is she this morning?

She is fine :) Her head just has a bruise line where the hit the corner of the doorway, but no huge red lump anymore. Her sleep was average, nothing different to usual, she kept us up but was fairly happy about it LOL

Phew that is good to hear!
