Swelling in the feet
Seem to be having major issues with swollen ankles and feet.....I know that swollen ankles/feet/hands/face can be a pre-cursor to preeclampsia, and Im heading off to the docs tomorrow to get checked out, but Im wondering if swelling can just happen because you are pregnant, no other reason, IYKWIM? I had some ankle swelling in my second pregnancy 10 years ago, but that happened in the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and it certainly wasnt as bad as what Im experiencing now.
With this lot, it started about a week ago and would only come about if I had been on my feet a lot (ie: housework, chasing around DD!!), but this morning I woke up with them and despite me elevating them and keeping off my feet as much as I can, they still havent gone down :(...have resorted to bare feet and wearing thongs when out and about (not pleasant in this cold Melb. weather!)....
Never had any probs with blood pressure EVER...
ANyways, I would appreciate any feedback or anybody else who is having this issue.
Thank you :)

i know exactly what you mean! With DD the only shoes that would fit me were thongs, and that was from about 32 weeks on. I had no other problems.. just swelling. Often it would be that bad (Even after a day of sittin on my butt) that if i pressed a finger onto my shin, it would leave a big dent and take about 5 minutes for the fluid to return to that particular spot.
Definately get your doc to check you out, but like i said - i had it pretty bad also, with no other health concerns. HTH! Good luck for the remainder of your pregnancy! :p

Swelling is really normal in pregnancy, especially in the third tri. Good idea to get it checked out though.
I just had a look at my feet and mine are huge today - that's a first!! How ironic that I only noticed it as I respond to your post! I feel fine otherwise though and I'm not swollen anywhere else so I'm sure it's fine but I'll raise it with my OB tomorrow.
Seriously, that is my first bout of swollen feet. Too funny!

A certain level of swelling of the feet and ankles can be normal in pregnancy, simply due to the fact that you are pregnant and that causes changes in your body. It's only when it's accompanied by a raised BP, protein in the urine etc that it becomes a sign of pre eclampsia. But it's good to get it checked out JIC!

Its actually one of the first things that my OB asks me on every visit, is there any swelling of the feet...one day I asked her why she always asks that and she told me because of the PE thing, so since then Ive always kept an eye out for them (specially since I have had them on one previous occassion)....like I said my BP's never been an issue, but I actually brought forward my appointment from Thursday to tomorrow for the reason of my feet...they actually look horrendous!! Todays the worst that they have been, and being that I have pretty much sat on my butt all day (apart from making beds and basic housework) I just felt a bit concerned is all.
Thank you all for the feedback.......too funny of a co-inky-dink too Taurean!!! Hope yours dont give you too much grief!

As other girls said you can get the swelling without it being PE. As BP doesn't appear to be an issue hopefully will not be serious just one of the wonderful little 'extras' that we get given for being pregnant. Think it is really only when it moves to your face that you need to be concerned about PE.
I think I've also read somewhere that it can be effect by the way the baby is lying. I think they can lie on blood vessles that effect flow of blood (duh obviously!) and this in turn leads to water retention which of course leads to swelling. Sounds weird but increase amount of water you have each day as this help reduce swelling.
Would defo ask OB or doc about it though to be sure.
