It's getting so hot at the moment in Qld, I can't exercise like I once did so I wondered about getting into swimming again.
Just want to make sure it's safe????
Thanks guys

Swimming is fantastic when pregnant. (within reason don't swim miles of laps really fast)
generally with exercise if you were doing it before you were preg you can continue when preg within reason.
Its especially good if you get pelvic and back pain as you get bigger.
Some swim centres have pregnant aqua aerobic classes.
Congratulations hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy
I was told that later on it may be better to avoid strokes like breaststroke that open up your pelvis too much, but this is more mum's comfort than because of any worries for baby. Not sure how true that is anyway, about avoiding those strokes - just something to maybe keep in mind...
I was swimming 1km a few times a week up to 39 weeks pregnant with the last pregnancy. After 20 weeks avoid backstroke as it is the same as lying on your back.
It is great exercise for you though.
hi sue,
i got my togs out (acutally found a cute maternity pair in big dub) just last week.
i can't walk much at the moment cos of sciatica playing up, so am enjoying swimming...
the only thing is it is very very slow going with a belly attached rofl! I felt like an upside tortoise bobby along in the water :) --- although i'm a ''former'' swimmer so am used to having a lovely style and lapping all those slow people in the pool... eeek no more!
so enjoy the warm weather and the cool pool!
have fun (just remember no diving!)
I remember reading somewhere that you have to be careful when swimming when pregnant, to make sure you don't get too hot. It's obviously harder to tell what you your body temperature is when you're in the water, because you don't feel yourself sweating or anything like that.
