stroller/pram = excess baggage?

We are flying Jetstar from adelaide to Darwin on wed night, with jbaby (10 months) havent purchased an extra seat so he will be on my lap.
Problem I am having is that I was only planning on taking my HAB, but my mother is adamant that it will be too hot, too uncomfortable...blah, blah, blah...(:rolleyes: sorry , she hates it!)
anyway, If I can get a stroller to take with us, do they charge that as extra baggage? we are allowed up to 20kg each (dp and I) so I am assuming that if I exceed the 20kg limit with the stroller I will be paying excess for it.
My mother thinks this is BS, and that they wouldnt charge us for it, I dont see why they wouldnt!
so Do you know?? I cant find anything on the website about it, will probably ring tomorrow to find out.

I have heard but dont quote me that you are allowed stroller, car seat, portacot as extra backage with no charge.

Maybe ring airline and ask.

Strollers and Pushers
We understand how indispensable compact strollers or pushers can be on holiday. Most parents with small children wouldn?t dream of going away without one. Nor should they have to. At Jetstar we?re happy for you to bring one along in addition to your regular baggage allowance.

On domestic and Tasman flights you must check pushers or strollers in with your other luggage. Larger pushers can travel as ?special luggage?. Make sure it clips shut so it?s easier to handle.

For your convenience parents can bring a fully collapsible pusher on-board our A330s (International long haul flights) so long as it is no bigger than 100x25x23cm.

HOT TIP
While we always do our best to ensure your luggage arrives safely, sometimes strollers can be damaged in transit. Protect your stroller by placing it in a bag or in plastic wrap.

Anyone who has paid for a seat is entitled to the full baggage allocation: 20kg of check-in and 10kg hand luggage. Another great reason for purchasing a ticket for infants.

I haven't travelleled on Jetstar but you can take your pram/stroller right up to the gate, where they fold it up and put it in the plane for you. You don't have to check it in with your other baggage, which saves your back carting around a 10 month old till your plane departs. HTH

Just recently we flew to Melbourne and then a trip to Brisbane.

I really recommend that when you do package up your pram, get them to put a fragile tag on it, they offered on our return trip for Melbourne and I just made sure it was still attached for the following trip. I ended up buying a specialised bag for ours as we had spent so much on the pram it wasn't worth it getting damaged by baggage handlers, someone posted about 1 week ago about a brand new P&T pram that got badly damaged flying from Adelaide to Darwin, and are now going through all the hastles of getting it replaced.. I think the carrier was Qantas.

You can get a quicksmart stroller they come in a backpack and would do the job, but I don't know how much they cost, I have one I got second hand but haven't used it yet!

A friend bought a heavy duty plastic bag for hers and it travelled well, think it cost her $8 from a packing company.

We did - from memory it was 2 "baby items" - ie cot, car seat, stroller - for free.
You check them in at the airport at the oversize baggage counter, the checking girl will give put stickers on them for you and most airports have cheapie umbrella strollers to use to the gate, i usually use the Ergo or just carry her though.

I hate to say it, but I think your mum is right lol I wasnt going to take my pram to Melbourne not long after Charlotte was born, but mum insisted and I would have been so frustrated without it!

The other thing is while your HAB will be great in the airport you can't use it on the plane. I was asked to take dd out of it on the plane and I got a bit huffy as she was fast asleep but the flight attendant explained that in an emergency situation if something happened to me they need to be able to grab the baby quickly and that a sling gets in the way. Just to prepare you as I almost cracked the ****s when they told me I couldnt use it as I had planned to have her sleep in it the whole time

I thought that was only for take off and landing. Were you not 'allowed' to use it for the whole flight? I'd be p!ssed at that.

well technically they cannot make you take it off at all...there is nothing in their terms and conditions of flight. They just have ot have a seperate seatbelt on for take off and landing, which you can still put on them...The air hostess was most upset when I refused to take Charlotte out of the Ergo and still managed to strap her into the infant seat belt lol

Well my flight attendant stood over me until I took DS out of the ergo, he was sound asleep and it was landing time... I said, he will cry and she said no he wont, he is asleep, and literally stood over me quite roodly, until I put the seatbelt on him. So you know what happened then, he proceeded to wail at the top of his lungs for the remainder of the flight... But the ergo was perfect for flight time, as he was able to sleep and I could move about with him, so having him on my lap was no problem.
