Bambino Mio's for newborn & first time Mum?? Opinions?

Hi!

So as some of you know, I am keen on taking the cloth bum path with my little man who is due in roughly 12 weeks (WOW how that time has flown!!) I am most keen on using AIO MCN's from Cushie Tushies, Baby Beehinds & Itti Bitti however am not so keen buying newborn sizes as they only fit for such a short period of time and I'd prefer to buy the OSFM or larger sized that will fit for a bit longer :)

So I am looking to use prefolds for up to the first 6 months and have recently found a great deal on a brand new set of Bambino Mio's which I have been hunting for a while (I am especially obsessed with their little starry bum cover to be honest - So cute!)

The set comes with 24 Cotton Prefolds, 4 NB Covers & 4 5-7kg covers and then i figure we'll be ready for my stock pile of MCN's :)

Has anyone used the Bambino Mio's and what did they think?? I was originally planning to buy some Bamboo Material and my Grandmother and I were going to measure out and hem the sides to make our own prefolds, so I bought some Snappi's, planned on buying some Mio Covers only and was just about to order the bamboo when I came across this Mio Pack with the cotton prefolds - Should I still do some bamboo as well? i was thinking I could use them as "night nappies" anyway?? I just think that the cotton prefolds would fit much better under the Mio cover and as they come with the pack, there'd be less hassle to get the bamboo made up etc...

Any opinions are more than welcome! I am most grateful for any help! I am going in a bit blind at the moment!!

bambino mio is what i used on dd when she was born , they lasted ages too , she was 3 kgs when born and the mio were prefect , i bought the nb kit a few days after she was born they were the easiest , even for out and about , the leg gussets really help the leakage . i could snappi the prefolds for a while before i just lyed them in the cover .

its best to invest in something NB size as fit and continment are improtant , not having the right fitting nappy can put newbies off cloth , so yeah go for the kit .

i also used BM in my ds when he was about 3mths old , no probs there either :)

of course you can get prefolds cheaper here and there on ther net and just buy mio covers ( i have uesd bummis aswell , not as good fit imo) so that could be another way , but the mio prefolds are such good quailty !!

I use BM for MJs first weeks and they were awsome, already had BBH so progressed onto them when she was a bit bigger anyway. I have a friend that has used BM exclusivly, with her twin DS and then DD, for aver 18mths she had all three in them.
I use them as boosters with other nappies now, cos i only bought the newborn size.
totally worth it, unfortunatly i got addicted to fitteds and AIO AI2's!!!

probably wouldnt go for them overnight , i used a fitted nappy , like the NB pookeypockets but mainly the nb bbh magicalls with an extra booster as she got changed every feed .

now no matter if she wakes or not , shes in a minky magic all with a night booster all night :)

I agree not best for overnight once they are bigger, but i guess if you boost enough - its just how big to you want that nappy bum!!!
investing in 2-3 (or more!!!) Good night nappies is a good idea anyway, i have 3 designated for just night time and that covers me for drying time etc

I've not used bambino mio but I have used bamboo prefolds which are similar and they are harder to keep on once bubs is rolling about. From a newborn it would be a worthwhile investment but seeing as your bub is 3 months old already you may find the slipping that can happen not worth it IYKWIM.
Although if you are planning on more bubbas then they will get the use in the future ;)

I used bambino mio on my little boy.

Loved it. Easy to use and clean, no rash problems, the main issues is the drying time. Which is short, but so many nappies and it rains a lot in my neck of the woods.

If I hadn't have been given some fitted ones for free and then decided to try other types I'd still be using them non-stop. The training pants are great too. But now he's bigger and more mobile I prefer him in fitted/AIOs. Although I never had leaks with bambino mio, it's more with the pinning him down to change a nappy thing! AIOs are quicker to change.

Actually, I still use the bambino mio nappies, but in stuffable covers. So just one thing to deal with at a time still. They're fab.

Oh yes, overnight - just use the larger size nappies (the white not the purple edging). Went all night for us until about 9m old when he needed something a bit more, but he was waking a LOT at night.

Thanks for all of your replies ladies! You talked me into it haha - I bought the set :) Can't wait for them to arrive! Includes 21 Prefolds, 5 of the the <5kg Newborn Covers & 3 x 5-7kg covers so I should be set for a few months until he fits into the MCN's :) So excited!!

I pre-washed just in normal water with no detergent. I didn't even heat the water, just the "as it comes" setting on the machine. I understand that it's important to get them washed and dried 2-3 times rather than use any particular detergent.

It worked for me - but if I'm wrong then I hope someone will tell me!

hi Charmalea, im a newbie to this and im trying to get into cloth nappies! i love the AIO system, but wasn't sure if you can use them for night tim aswell? can you shed some light on this for me??

i was gonig to get the BHH fitted for night time bit it's all getting confusing for me :redface:

I am also expecting my first and planning to use prefolds in the early days. I bought my newborn set of bambino mio today and have a stupid question! :p

How do you use the liner? The picture just has it hovering above the nappy... Are you supposed to fold it around the prefold, or just fold it in half or something so it fits inside the cover. A bit confused about how I put these together...

Any advice from people from you guys that have used these??

You pop the nappy in the cover then the liner on top. I found if I folded the liner around the nappy then if there was a poo it was monsterous to clean up! Not that it wasn't anyway with my little poo-monster but the liner floating on top not wrapped around the nappy helped. It stuck out a bit but that didn't matter at all - I had throwaway liners though.

AIO nappies with boosters should be fine overnight, so long as you can shove a booster in there! I did it once and DS seemed fine with it - but I prefer the hemp ones now for the night-time.
