Pelvic ultrasound question

I've just had a pelvic ultrasound done this morning. Doc didn't say I'd need an internal, but I figured I would anyway, so that was okay. But the sonographer also did a kidney exam - has this happened to anyone else?

I asked her why, and she said that the kidneys are related to fertility as well, so if a pelvic ultrasound is requirred for fertility, a kidney scan should also be done. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this done, as I've had several ultrasounds over the years, and not once have they done a kidney scan!

I also had kidney scans as part of my infertility investigations. Unfortunately I can't remember the specifics of why, other than as you already noted, it's part of the reproduction process!

Hopefully someone will come up with a more scientific answer for you but you're definitely not alone in having the kidney scans done.

Lol, thanks Lise :) I wasn't accusing her of perving on my kidneys or anything - though I'm sure they're lovely :) - I was just curious why its never been done before, KWIM? Maybe its a new thing...

Yep both times I had a US to check on a cyst they did the kidneys too. I don't know why either.

wow i have never had this done! and ive done 14 IVF cycles

when i had an US done early this year they checked my kidneys.. its good if you get a nice sonographer that explains what they are doing. i tend to ask lots of questions when im getting anything done.

I just had a pelvic u/s in aug 2009. They never scanned my kidneys. It was done in the country so maybe they didnt know they had to.

But they did tell me I ovulated from my left ovary. lol.
