Wish me luck ladies.......

My first orthodontist appointment is Tuesday morning. I'm very, very nervous! I have had tonnes of problems with my teeth shifting since I had my wisdom teeth removed in Apr 2008 & after visiting my local dentist he has suggested I see an orthodontist to look at 'specialised methods for stopping the shift' but whispered 'braces' in my ear!

I'm very nervous but very excited to get my teeth fixed! It might help inspire me to fix the rest of my fat body up if I have spunkylicious teeth! hahahaahah :rofl:

So wish me luck girls, I'm going to need it (as well as my bank account!).

I'm 32 and I just got braces a few months ago too. It hurts at the start and takes a week or two to get used to, but I can already see a huge difference so I know its all going to be worth it. I had shocking teeth and couldn't afford to get it done as a teenager.
Feel free to ask me any questions... I'm so used to them now I even just managed to eat roast rack of lamb (that is quite an achievement!)

Ok, so I had the appointment this morning & he said that from his point of view, there is no actual dental necessity to have the braces & that's it an evolutionary thing in my life cycle for my teeth to drift forwards, but that my dentist in correct in telling me that over the years it will just progress. He also said my teeth seem to take on a 'V' kinda shape instead of a 'U' kind of shape & braces would open that up. He said if I went down the braces line I would have them on for around 12 months & then I'd have to wear the retainer every night from then. He cheekily told me to leave it off the 'nights I want a bit'!!!! How :redface:!!!

So now I have to decide what I want to do, he doesn't endorse the Invasalign or whatever brand or the ones that you put behind your teeth but he uses the Damon brand (I think), & they are realising their clear range in October so by the time I got all my records sorted, it would be October & he would put them on for me.

The cost is $5500 (roughly) & that's the part I'm struggling with. I feel so bad that Alan is working overseas so we can pay our mortgage off & here I am stacking $5500 worth of metal onto my teeth.

Ooooh, sounds good to me Jayne!!!! I think you should go for it! Tell Alan it's a lifetime investment ;). All the stuff the ortho told you sounds spot on, he sounds like a goodie :D I think you would end up with a fantastic result, from the photos I've seen of you!

I am too scared to tell him yet. I have 'tentatively' booked in for 29 Sept to get all the mouldings & scans & stuff taken, so at least i have time in between then to talk to Alan & make a decision.

I'm glad he sounded good to you, I was still breathless over the 'dont wear the retainer on the night you want to get a bit' comment! The rest just glazed over! LOL

Ah, but I'm a meanie, I would tell you you have to wear the retainer ALL the time for 12 months, and then EVERY night for the next 12 months!!!! Hehe. Once you've gone through all of that, you want those teeth to stay put, never mind getting a bit :rofl:!

I know! for $5500 my teeth need to be superglued in place!

Oh, and why don't people seem to like invisalign? what were the reasons he said?

Lee, Invisalign is really only effective for a very small amount of patients. For those it is appropriate for, it is a good system, but as those people are few and far between, alot of orthodontists don't use the system. And TBH, you can usually get faster (and possibly better) results with traditional appliances anyway.

LEE _ He didn't actually give me a definitive answer, only he doesn't endorse the product or know how to use the product but said the best & most effective way to straighten teeth is with actual braces, but he did have a colleague in the practice who was trained with that product & I could freely go to him if I wanted. He didn't say the product was good, bad or otherwise, just that it wasn't his 'field' basically. So I'm none the wiser as well, but Janie had steered me clear anyway :lol:
