Cool or Interesting labour stories!

Every day I wake up and think about what I am going to be doing and what would happen if I went into labour in any of those situations! It seems from reading most birth stories that people go into labour at home, during the night but does anyone have any unusual, cool or interesting stories about their labour or even a friend or family member?

When I went into labour with DD it wasn't that dramatic but I wasn't at home - I was at my SIL's ready to have dinner. I was sitting on the couch laughing at the fact about 15 mins prior I had pranked my sister so she though we were in labour, when I felt some wetness, Bolted to the toilet and my waters well and truly broke! Needed 2 towels! After checking in at hospital we went home for about 4 hours until contractions started getting close and went back.

Tell us your cool stories! Anyone go into labour at the shops or somewhere really embarrassing? Did you get stuck - who helped you? etc. etc.!

Plain old boring two inductions here but I want to read others stories. Could be good for a laugh.

My sister was at home, her DH had gone to Albany (400k's) for work for the night. Our dad was there fixing something for her, and she bent over to pick something up, and went POP!! She reckons she's never seen anyone go so pale so fast ;)

Out of my 4 labours...i reckon 2 of mine have been pretty eventful....

BIRTH #2

Felt pains in the morning (4 days past EDD) , thought nothing of them, DH went to work. By 8am pains were stronger. Called DH - he a fireman, so had to re-arrange a backup. Pains fast and furious by 10am, but still thought i had plenty of time. Asked DH to put kettle on for a cuppa...i was in bedroom deciding what to wear, when my waters broke all over my bedroom floor. DH got car ready "i will be there in a sec' i yelled out. I thought i needed to go to loo and do a #2...on way to toilet i thought to myself...'you dont wanna do a poo, you wanna push your baby out'!!!. Ran to car, and yelled and screamed the whole way to the hospital. I yelled at DH at one stage to pull over (in the gutter) as i wanted to push baby out. He kept driving. Arrived at emergency dept. They wheeled me straight into theatre. Pumpkin patch skirt still on, knickers still on (for the time being...;)) and shoes still on. THey didnt know my name, they had no time to take me upstairs. Medical students working in emergency were allowed to look in - not very often do they get a birth in emergency i was later told. 2 pushes and DD#2 was out. SHoes and skirt still on .......:rolleyes:i guess you could say we just made it.

BIRTH #3
16 Sept 2007 - DD#1 turned 4. We had her birthday party at mcdonalds. I wasnt due until 20 Sept with child #3. Day turned out well, party was fun. My family, DH family was there. Afterwards a few friends came back to our home to check out the new trampoline. My sister gave me a pedicure. In the middle of the pedicure i suddenly felt ill....i wanted to vomit, i also wanted everyone to leave. They did. Was in bed by 630pm - up again at 7pm for a vomit. Back to bed. Up again at 730pm for a vomit. Back in bed. 8pm DD#1 (the birthday girl) started vomitting. Im on bathroom floor vomitting. DH running inbetween. At 1am (still vomitting) i started to get contractions. Rang hossi, they said with all my vomitting, it has prob sent baby into labour. Decided the 5 loads of sheets me and daughter had just vomitted on could wait. We got to hossi about 3am. i was 7cm or something like that....whilst pushing i was also vomitting....DD was born 17 Sept at around 5am..found out later more than half of my family and DH family were up all night vomitting.....some bug we had caught at mcdonalds...needless to say we didnt have many visitors whilst in hospital....;)

M-bear I was about to reply "cool" but then thought maybe the second story not so cool!! Poor thing! Your first story is amazing - I'm so scared that I won't have time to pack last things, organise Mackenzie and get to hospital in time! Fingers crossed!

My waters broke while driving home from yoga, 33 weeks pregnant.... Link to my Nakita's story in my sig ;)

I was determined to get my twins back to school before i had #3. Was due 18th feb but of course on the first day back at school as I was lining them up to go into their new classroom, I got my first cx. They started at 2 mins apart from the start.
Had made a date to go out with the girls for a coffee/milkshake and was determined still to go, so i went in labour to the coffee shop. They were a bit shocked when i drove there and rocked up for a cuppa with cx at 1.30 sec apart- lol

After i had finished there, i went to the supermarket and butcher to make sure there was food for the family to eat that nite, and drove home with cx 1 min apart-lol
Finally got to the hossy at 12pm and was 3cm and in full labour.

By the time the twins had finished school that day- i had our DS # 3 in the most amazing birth.

If it wasnt peek hour, i could have made it back to pick them up from school that day lol

You Rock *det* :dance: when my ctx were that close I would have been having bubs at the schools gate (thanks to dilating quickly, 3min appart and I was 7-8cm) :rofl:

With DD1 (hang in here this is a bit complicated) DP and I were at home when ex-DH dropped by and asked us if we wanted to go to a friends place for dinner. We said yes so ex-DH drove us over there. We had dinner and I felt a massive kick so I decided to lie down on the couch next to ex-DH. The I felt like I had wet myself, so I stood up and just gushed everywhere! I was yelling at DP "something's happening!!". Everyone jumped up and ran around like crazy getting towels etc. Ex-DH had to drive us home with me sitting on towels in his new leather seated car :lol: I didn't go into labour until the next day.

With DD2 I dropped DD1 at childcare and rang my friend (yes the SAME friend as in the previous birth) to stroll over and have a cuppa. I was 39w4d so I sat on a towel on her couch (same couch) this time. I was sitting there playing with her baby for about half an hour and was getting pains that didn't seem to be going away. They kept getting stronger and stronger. When they were really uncomfortable I thought it best to go home - by the time I walked the 500m home I was well and truly in labour.

So my labour started with boths girls at the same friend's house while sitting on the same couch!

*det* - your a superstar, so calm and organised... lol you nkow your body well enough obviously.

Well i think mine was pretty cool but scary, i ended up having DD at home on the bathroom floor by myself on the phone to 000 and mum and she was breach!
We live in 10acres so no-one could have heard me scream if i tried... :p
DP went to work as the hosp kept saying it's my 1st and i could be like this for days, i was comfortable enough with him leaving to work an hour away, when i wasn't comfy i called him and 5min later my water broke..
She wasn't waiting for anyone though as she was out 20min after my water broke while on the phone to 000.
My cousin and his wife came in about 5sec after she was born and on the floor, my cousin who is DP's best mate called him to says bubs was here and DP hung up swearing at him thinking he was joking.. cous had to call him back and explain it's for real!
He made a 45min trip in 15min but still missed the birth of his little girl!

It's great seeing everyones stories, #2 is due in jan and i wont be waiting for anyone this time and DP wont be leaving the house!

Mine wasn't that exciting, no waters breaking in shops or anything, but it was kind of different :)

Had my baby shower at 34w6d, at a friend's house who is a neighbour. Was kind of off all day, flushed in the face, felt like everything was in slow mo, and found it hard to converse with people (VERY unusual for me :lol:). By 7 that night DH came to pick me up, and I really, really just wanted to go home, but everyone said "you won't be having a baby tonight, just let him stay and have a drink!". So I was out numbered :lol:. Went into the loungeroom with my friend to have a chat, but I was so upset, I just wanted to get out of there and be at home, I started crying. I couldn't go home on my own, because I had broken my foot the week before, and was in a wheelchair :rolleyes:, so my friend went to get DH to wheel me home.

Once we got home I sat on the couch and just cried over NOTHING for an hour, DH was so worried, and kept asking what was wrong, but I didn't know LOL. Eventually I cheered up a bit, and went to call my mum to have a chat, and left DH watching the footy. I was sitting on the bed chatting away, and I laughed at something mum said and thought I had wet myself.......didn't say anything to her, but went into the ensuite to investigate and thought "Oh. Wee isn't pink. I think my waters have broken". Didn't tell mum, just said I had to go, and went out to tell DH "you all might not have thought that we're going to have a baby tonight, but we are!!!!". Of course, he just jumped up, turned off the telly, grabbed his keys, put his jumper on and said "let's go then". Um, yeah, I have no pants on, and the bags aren't finished yet!!!!! But we got there a couple of hours later, and DS was born at 11am, 35 weeks on the dot :)

ETA Avasmum, now THAT is a ripper birth story!!!! :lol:

Well DS1's labour was the longest out of all of them - 22 hrs (so far, still got one to go!)...had been contracting since 1am that morning, by 10am couldnt take it anymore so off to hossy...contractions were getting intense and I was panting and groaning through them all in the front seat of the car, DP got distracted by me doing this and ran straight into the back of another car...a BMW no less....got out to let the other driver know what was happening and told him to follow us to the hosp, which was only 500m up the road...so I was left to get into hossy by myself whilst DP swapped details!! Thankfully no one was hurt and DS1 was out by 10pm that night!

DD1 was 5 days past her due date...I was at home alone and was letting DS1 (a toddler then) have a play outside with our dog.....dog was thirsty so I went to refill his water bowl. Couldnt see my feet as I was so big, managed to trip up a step with full water bowl in my hands...bowl went flying, put my hands out in front of myself to stop me landing on my belly, managed to land on my hands and knees and turn myself around. Had some grazes on my hands but belly was alright...got a heck of a fright though! 5 hours later, I was on my way to hosp in labour, she was born another 6 hours after I arrived....I reckon if I hadnt of had that fall and fright I may have ended up being induced!

DD2 was pretty boring, 11 days past due date, very little fluid, got induced....6 hours labour...oh, I did manage to throw up over a poor midwife...had no warning it was coming! I felt so bad for her :(

And as for no.4, well hes due any day now so hopefully Ill have something cool to post about his arrival soon :)

my SIL had an interesting VERY unplanned home birth for her first (about nine years ago now). She was 29weeks pg and stuck out on a property with her husband because of flooding. He delivered the baby with directions over the phone from emergency services, they then had a midwife and paramedic 'airdropped' in to their property an hour or so after the actual birth, to check out mum and her premmie, and had to wait for flood waters to receed abit before a helicopter could land anywhere to airlift them out. The paramedic found what turned out to be my BIL's wedding ring amongst all the mud near the helicopter - he had lost it 10months earlier whilst working on the farm. My nephew spent nearly two months in the NICU at John Hunter hosipital before he was able to go home.

Personally I am extremely glad my birthing experiences have been relatively non-eventful, I couldn' imagine anything more stressful then what my SIL went through.

i once came across a youtube clip of a girl having her baby in Ikea. that must of been intense!

no personal stories. our family and friends are sooo boring LOL!
