A stupid question re pocket nappies

OK I have a really dumb question about pocket nappies - you'd think I'd have figured this out before ordering a set of 6 to try out ! :

We are using terry squares with PUL covers for the mo as DD is pretty small and all the MCNs seem huge! Now that she's almost a month old we took the plunge and ordered some OSFA pocket nappies that come with 2 inserts each. Now I was under the impression that if they weren't very soiled you could just remove the poo in the liner (got a big roll of these) and put in a new insert. But I've just realised that the pocket into which the inserts go will always be in contact with DD's bum therefore I'll have to chuck the whole thing in the wash at every change anyway :( Am I right?
Should I be going for a 'pop in' or 'snap in' nappy instead? If so what brands are good?
I'm still going to keep the ones on order as I like the idea of quick drying and flexibility with inserts compared to All-In-Ones.

Yes you are right! Don't be too sad though because pockets are a wonderful nappy!

What you want to look for is an AI2 (all in 2) where the boosters snap into the shell. Then you need to get additional booster sets. eg itti bittis are about $27 and then the extra booster sets are about $12 extra. As long as the shell isn't pooed on or isn't saturated then you just change the boosters over and re-use the shell again.

I'll second that pockets are a fabulous nappy - don't feel sad for a second! They are so versatile in terms of how they fit and how absorbent you want them to be, and they dry so quickly! Great great type of nappy.

You can use snap ins as you originally intended - although I imagine with a newborn's poop there will be many times where it's best to just throw the whole thing in the wash.

As bub gets older, you may be able to just use a liner and just throw the poop in the loo and liner in the wash - for example, one of my boys went through a phase of pooping just after a nappy change - so I'd pop in a flushable liner, and 5 minutes later just pull the liner&co out since the nappy was either dry or barely barely wet.

Sounds like you might want to stick with fitteds and covers - you can re-use each cover a few times as long as it doesn't get any poo on it.

Pockets are great though because they're so flexible as far as how you can use them. They dry a lot faster because you can dry the two parts separately, and having two inserts for each shell means that you won't have to wait for the insert to dry before you next use the pockets (shells dry heaps faster than inserts)
