on FRIDAY (as in the 18th)
I got a call about 20mins ago asking if we could do fridays for his operation and I said sure, I then took down some details and asked which friday and she said as in the friday in 2 days not tomorrow the day after!
I'm so nervous! NONE of my little men have ever been under a GA. I know it is only a 20 minute procedure but it's going to be the 20 longest minutes in my life!!!
What should I expect???
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!!!
you will be allowed to go in and be with him till he goes to sleep.
dont be alarmed if he looks a bit doped out before he closes his eyes or if they roll back a bit, its normal, this happens as the body relaxes and goes into the deep sleep.
he will be groggy for a good few hours after and may bee very sooky and clingy.
your emotions will be crazy but he will pick up on this so try and stay calm, we played eye spy with DS when we took him in he is 9 but was very nervous about the op kept his mind off it and then he relaxed and went to sleep.
get him to do a wee before he goes in like 20 m in before, as 9/10 kids will wee themselves as their body relaxes the bladder relaxes aswell,
take him a change of clothes, fav teddy or toy nothing to big though.
some of his fav juice or jelly post op, kids love a treat.
there will be lots of people in the room setting up, you will have the anesthetist, his nurse, the scrub nurse the scout nurse the dr the drs assistant and maybe a couple of people floating in and out dont be alarmed this is normal even for a 20 min operation.
the whole procedure may take 40-50 min as they have to set up drape him and get him under so dont be worried if its been 20 min and still no word about him being in recovery.
recovery can be daunting aswell lots of monitors, lots of bed, lots of beeping and alarming, try and ignore it all.
and good luck he will be fine and dont forget a nice glass of wine when you get home for yourself :D

its just standard procedure.
each room to open and be workable needs that many people.
i was once invoilved team of 8 for a removal of a splinter. it only needed the dr to cut a bit and pull it out and stitch it back up.
but they all need their right hand man and we need a scout incase something is forgotten or if we misjudge a size of dressing and need a new one from stock, because once they are dressed they cant leave the room
ive been through this just recently when i went in room with josiah whom just turned 1 recently, they layed him on a warm padded thing on a bed. Put a nice warm blanket on him i stood there holding his hand talking to him he sucked away at his dummie and they placed the mask over his face while sucking his dummie and in 3 seconds it seemed he closed his eyes i kissed him and left the room. he was such a trooper. :hug:
