Poo question.. 11 month old

DD is almost 11 months old. Ive been wondering about her poo for a while now but didnt want to post as i think it looks like a first time mum, looking into something too much. But i just wanted to see what u lovley BB girls thought....

DD poo's alot, on average 4-5 times a day. But, they still arnt formed. They are still quite runny. She eats 3 meals a day and has 3 bottles of formula a day. SHe has alot of fresh fruit and veg, meat etc with a jar of food chucked in here and there when we are flat out.

Is it normal for her to poo so much and them not be formed at all?

DS has always pooed a lot. Today we had 5 ;) I remember days when we've had 7! Sometimes they are solid poos and other times more pasty. They even vary throughout the day depending on what he's eaten. Are your DD's poos actually runny or more pasty?

I'm sure diet has a lot to do with it. Fruit increases frequency and keeps things soft. Also teething can apparently increase frequency and looseness due to large amount of saliva that's produced.

Don't worry about querying things as a first time mum.... I think we all think a whole lot about poo!

My DD has never been a mad vege fan, but fruit yes. If she's had a big fruit day she'll poo more, and it'll be softer.
There's a boy in our playgroup who's a great eater - vegetarian family, so lots of fruit and veges. Pooed aaaaaall the time, LOL! Dunno what the consistency was like though. Three bottles of milk is lots of fluid so I'd think it's normal that they'd be soft.

Charlotte was BF but she also didn't have formed poo at that age either. She finally got regular formed poo and cut the frequency in half daily once we got to 18 months old.

Try not to worry, so long as it is not diahrroea then Im sure it is fine.

Like pp76 said, fruit and veg will affect the consistency - you could try upping her fibre/roughage intake if you are concerened - more grains, green leafy veg, baked beans - I think with all the trying to get fruit and veg into them we seem to forget that they need to have the grains as well.

thanks heaps girls. She does eat ALOT of fruit and veg but coz we were out today and she has had a vegemite and cheese sandwich, she hasnt pooed today at all yet. So yeah, i think its got to do with all the fruit and veg. Prob 1 out of the 5 ish poo's a day is diahrea looking, but the rest are just all sloppy and abit watery (as it really soaks into the nappy). I think ive taken more notice now coz shes in cloth and everyone says i can just put the poo in the toilet.. lol ahhh not hers i cant.

You are describing exactly what I am going through with my DD. I've also been wondering if it's normal. When she first started on solids her poos were well formed (and very easy to get off cloth nappies!). I was happy cos she was so much easier to clean. Then after a couple of weeks she went back to having her soft poos that go everywhere and are so annoying to clean plus going many times a day. :rolleyes: She does eat a lot of fruit and vegs but she also does eat a lot of grains. So I dunno. I guess it is normal for some babies and we are the lucky few.

My DS was similar at that age, seemed to be pooping so much.

If your DD is putting on weight then I wouldn't worry. The good news, DS is now a once a day pooper so it did get much better

we can have up to 3 poos a day here....Jack is on 3 meals a day and 3 formula feeds a day.
His lunch is fresh cooked vegies most day aswell a fruit & fruit-juice.
His poos are formed and not sloppy as you have described....

Despite the number of dirty nappies I have changed in my lifetime, I am not a poo expert. I know that it is perfectly normal for bf babies to not have formed poos at that age, but I am not totally sure about ff babies. I know that this "can" be a sign of dairy intolerance or allergy, however if this was the case I would expect that Mia would have other signs also. So it is probably normal but maybe something to ask the MCHN just to be sure. HTH.
