Swine Flu Vaccination - Are you going to have it done come Sept 30?

Are you going to have it when it becomes available in a couple of weeks?

I am 16 weeks along and tossing up whether or not to have it done.

I feel as though the release of the vaccine was a bit rushed and a little suspicious about the issues surrounding indemnity insurance and problems with the multiple dosing of the vaccine.

Having said that I am most fearful of getting it (the virus that is) and have been doing everything else possible to minimise chances of contracting it.

So what are your thoughts? Are you going to do it?

Personally no I won't be having it. I just don't feel there has been time for research into side effects and long term effects especially on unborn babies.

No I won't be & really "what swine flu" I can not remember the last time I heard anything about it. Seems to all have fizzled out. It would have to be some massive risk to me for me to get injected with something like that.

Are they giving it to babies, toddler, children on the 30th of sep too?

Nope I wont have it and neither will DH or DS.

It has been rushed through and not tested as much as I would want before i even considered it and also I don't agree with flu vaccines!!

Hi I like you really fear contracting swine flu but am very undecided if having the shot is a good idea :pray: I just heard today that they are predicting a big increase over summer??? Why?? I had hoped that I would be safer over the summer period!!! i think the story on fathers day really made me consider all the pros and cons, but still am not sure, I was hoping some info might come available from America where they have already started to give it to pregnant women I believe, maybe worth googling?

I won't be having it done. My sister (who works in a hospital) spoke to their infection control officer and he advised against it for the reasons already stated i.e. it has been rushed through with not enough testing, don't know the effects on unborn children etc.

I wouldn't have it, or opt for it for anyone in this family.

I was quite anxious about swine flu, but I would be even more anxious about a vaccine that has been rushed through ...

oooh yeah if I'm not getting it myself there is no way I would give it to my precious 2.5yr old.

I feel the same way about gardasil, but find it curious that so many had that one yet there is more resistance to the swine flu vaccine, maybe because it's supposed to prevent cancer (which isnt guaranteed, they have found HPV in young children hence the theory on it only passed on sexually isn't accurate).

I completely agree HPV can be passed on from mum to bub so many girls getting the vaccine already have it!
And the more you hear about bad reactions to Garasil the more it gets worrying. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with the Swine flu vax!!

I'm with you on both vaccines BellyBelly. I have heard obstetricians and gynae's discussing the gardasil vaccine and they're disgusted that it's being touted as a cure for cervical cancer when there is no solid evidence that HPV CAUSES cancer or that not having it prevents cancer. It's apparently been associated with less than half the cases of cervical cancer studied. Not a strong case if you ask me!

As for swine flu, I know a woman who got it and passed away around 9 months pregnant. Thankfully the baby survived but such a tragedy. I'm not convinced at all that the vaccine could have saved her.

My sister has recently started studying nursing and she tells me that what she is learning about vaccines has completely changed her opinion of them and she is wishing none of her children had been given them as babies.

Wow I'm glad things are finally changing when it comes to medical training I had a dead end argument with a registered nurse not long ago, dead end because she was medically trained and I'm not so she knew better when it came to immunisation. Maybe she should do a refresher course it has been years since her training.

Well I've had sswine flu and so have 2 of my kids - if not there is no way on this green grass I would be injecting my kids with it!

As for gardasil it freaks me out how ready folk are to front up for something so new and unknown...
My DD hasn't had it. I have no cervix so not necessary for me! :lol:

I wouldn't get it. (But then I haven't had any immunisations, so why start now;) )
I actually had swine flu a few weeks ago and then my boss caught it after me, yes it sucks but it wasn't THAT bad, no so bad that I would support any of my family being given an unknown vaccine.
I think instead of the vaccine your better off washing you hands often and steering clear of large crowds where you might contract it. (like eating in a food Court at a shopping centre)

In my opinion most people wont catch swine flu, but having the vaccine will definitely expose an unborn bubba to it.

I think I've been suffering a strain of it for the last 5 weeks now, so I'm not bothering. Might consider it for my asthmatic DD1, but probably not. Its really no different to any other flu, & I think its pretty much done the rounds :dunno:

My concern with swine flu is not its current rounds, but its potential second wave. From what I have heard, in the outbreak of the Spanish flu, the first wave was relatively mild, much like our swine flu has been (ie- not that much worse as far as mortality than the normal flu), but the second wave was the really deadly one. I am completely unscientific, so I don't understand why this is, but from my (limited) reading, it seems this is a 'common' progression for a virus.

So the only reason I am considering the vaccine is because I have some worries about a possible second wave. But I too am quite concerned about how quickly it has come onto the market. I really want to do some more research on it before I consent to it, and I am very cautious about giving it to DS.
