Baptism outfit for my DS
My DS is being baptised in three weeks :D but my problem is his outfit. We have a traditional family gown (yes it's a dress with lace, LOL!!) which my DD wore when she was baptised. I just assumed my DS would wear the same outfit but my DH isn't feeling real happy about his son wearing a dress. I never thought it would be an issue. What do you think? Is it wrong to put a little boy in a gown for his baptism?
TIA,
Dan.

I think the idea of a family gown is lovely. :) And dont see the issue with a boy wearing a Christening gown - it isn't a 'dress'!
But if your DH has a real issue with it, then perhaps you should look for something else for him to wear - start a new tradition with a more masculine outfit for family Christenings for boys in the future?
I would love to know what your DH's problem is with the gown though
Good luck :)

Darcy wore a dress I had made many years ago. It was lacey and had flowers. I just replaced the flowers for white bows. DS wore that last Satuday at his.
Isn't it funny though, my DH insisted that he wore the 'dress'.

My DS1 had a gown made by my mother for his christening (down side to this one, she made one each for my twin nephews (same age as my son) using my pattern so the three gowns were very similar - she smocked theirs but I didn't want the same on mine). For DS2 I bought a suit. My reasoning is that each child has his own outfit to pass on to his own child/ren. I'm #7 in my family so basically got hand me downs to wear, but nothing special to keep. (I don't even know if I have godparents or who they may be) I now need to sort out something for bub #3 when his/her turn comes along.
There is nothing wrong with boys wearing a gown - its quite traditional - but on the other hand - maybe its time to start another tradition in your family similar to the one I am doing.

Thanks for your input girls!!! I'm going to put the gown on DS so DH can have a look and then we'll go from there. I think he looks gorgeous. Mollycat what a beautiful idea that each of your children have their own outfit to hand down through their family. I wish I thought of that for my kids. I might have to think about getting him a suit.

you can get boy outfits that looks like little sailor outfits. we looked at them for DS but decided on a beige suite for him and will probs get another outfit for this bub when the time comes to baptise.

ITs funny...i could have posted the same thread...my DS too is getting baptised in (GULP) 3 weeks (so much to do....). I dearly want him to wear the same christening dress i wore (34 years ago !!), Dd#2 and DD#3 wore....but DH is sceptical. "you cant put our son in a dress"...is all i keep getting. I dont feel 100% happy doing it...i wish i did.
I have been told those 'cheap' looking asian boutiques sell gorgeous onesies boy christening suits....for something like $20 - and apparently dont look cheap at all. Will have a look around next week for something. If all a bit too cheesy, or nothing i can see that will suffice, i will just go with the dress..
Good luck with your decision.....
