We have just moved into a house and the tiles are filthy, layered grime that a normal mop won't get rid of. I have been scrubbing them, feeling abit like cinderella waiting for the fairy godmother to appear! Someone suggested the steam mop is it any good? How does it work, is it good for large spaces? Any feedback would be appreciated!
sweetpeajan- HI there. We have a 'Monster' steam mop, and I can tell u it is the best thing I have brought. The thing I like, is that u can change the setting to how much steam u want to come out. It also dries the floor really quickly. The pads I got with mine are washable.
My mum got one of those too and they work great! And you can get an "industrial" amount of steam to come out of them too ;) The only issue she has is that you can't get it right down into the grout, it only really does the surface stuff iykwim.:
Otherwise I'd suggest giving somene a call that do carpet/tile cleaning just to get it back to new again and get all the crap off, then you can keep it maintained with a steam mop :)
I have a Kenwood steam mop, and it's fantastic.
I like Teagz idea of getting a professional tile cleaner in to do the job first, then you maintain it from there.
Thanks ladies! Where do you get the monster mop from? How do these steam mops work? Do you poor water in them, are they battery operated or pluged in? Are they easier than using the normal mop in terms of labour? Thanks!!!
My mum got hers from Retravision on sale for $188. They just work like a normal mop, you fill it up with water like an iron and it's pretty easy to use. They're light too.:
Basically the steam just comes out on it's own once you adjust the level you want, and if you want extra it has a trigger you pull and it gives a full blast of steam, it's quite impressive actually.
They plug in, aaand, I would say easier than a normal mop. You just clip on the pad thingy and away you go!
I'd get a professional clean done first, they'll take the elbow grease out of maintaining it. A lot of carpet cleaning places do tile grout cleaning.
