We pulled a paralysis tick off a 5 week old puppy last night (she had been treated with frontline spray up to the tick dose) and today she is vomiting, loosing the use of her back legs and seems really lethargic.
We live on a sugar cane farm and have to check all our animals for ticks Daly so I don't think it was there for more than a day but she only weighs about 1.5-2kg.
Is there anything we can do? Is this the toxin passing through or are we loosing her? :crying:
Take her to the vet NOW, if you can. It's the effects of the toxin, and in such a little dog she needs to see a vet. Or at least talk to one, give your local a call :hug:
Get your hands on some Proban. My sis is a vet nurse and she reckons Proban tablets are excellent, you can get them at a good price from Australian Pet Treat Co (google it). Also Proventic collars are great too. You still have to check them though obviously.

I can't get to the vet because Sara is at work with the car:wall:, I'll give them a call and see if I can do anything for her here.

I agree to get to a vet as soon as you can. The signs are showing that means your pup needs treatment.
Nothing is more than 90% effective for ticks, so checking daily is the best thing. Frontline spray is the only thing you can use in a pup that is under 12 weeks of age, so you have done the best thing. Once the toxin is in the central nervous system, its important to get to a vet ASAP. :hug: goodluck!
ETA: yes proban is a preventative measure, there is only one thing to treat it and that is anti serum that a vet has to give. Proban has to be used every 48 hours, and TBH is hard to get people to do right, but it is extremely effective!

Get the puppy to the vets NOW! Its the only way you may save her.

We lost our Little pup this afternoon :crying:
After Sara finally came home with the car and we made it into the vet it was too late.
She slept in our bed with us last night and came to work with me today so at least she had lots of cuddles before she left. My poor Sara hasn't stopped crying yet, she was convinced the pup would pull through.
Thanks guys for putting me onto proban, I'll defiantly be looking into it for my big dogs.
