My 3 1/2 year old daughter seems to have issues with pronouncing "Keh" "Ceh" and "Geh" words. She says "Teh" instead of all three. So "cake" is "tate" and "gate" is also "tate". I can understand her but many can't. She also stutters when tired or excited.
I am thinking of getting her hearing tested and perhaps speech therapy too.
Any recommendations in the Western Sydney area? Is Speech pahology expensive? :dunno:

If you have any concerns at all start investigating immediately with the public health system. I say this because I started trying to get my DS some help 3 months ago and only today had an asessment. Now we are on a 6 month waiting list for some therapy.
If there is no concern, then all you have lost is a little time, but if there is, then you need to get your name "on the list" as soon as possible just in case.
I am in Melbourne so it may be a bit better where you are...

If you google Tyquin Speech Therapy, you may find some information that may help you. I had a look around the site, and if you click on articles, there is some information there on when certain sounds and blends should be spoken.

my little brother had the same issue except he couldnt say CH or TR sound like chocolate and chicken or truck he said socolate sicken and swuck lol now he talks normally
DD1 is 3.5 and only just progressed from saying "t" for "keh" and "d" for "geh" sounds. I asked the kinder teacher at the start of the year and the MHCN at her 3.5 year check and they both said that it is normal. Up to 5 they often have trouble with some sounds but if you are worried get it checked out.
DD1 was a very early speaker and also speaks very well so it was surprising that she had trouble with these sounds but they did develop on their own with no assistance.
The K sounding letters are harder to pronounce. My 2 year old (3 on monday) says Dameron for Kameron and Dayla for Kayla etc. He has done speech therapy for about 9 mths, and the therapist said he may not develop these sounds until he his well into his 3's, possibly even 4's
Thanks for the advice everyone :) . I might speak with the clinic next time I get Josh weighed and try to get Miss Katy's name on a list as I am sure there will be a wait anyway, and now that I am home just keep working at it with her.... I am just worried that if there is an issue and I leave it too long she'll be picked on a pre-school or school. I am a stress-head aren't I?
Hi Leanne. My DD2 has that same problem with her speech (as well as other speech issues) and she has been seeing her speechie for 12 months now and we've had huge success. She no longer substitutes T for C sounds (Little Miss Muffet eats Curds and whey now, not Turds and whey :rofl: ) We are just starting to work on G sounds now. You need to get a referral to a speechie as you can see them via the public system but there are waiting lists so it may be worth looking into getting some private therapy done in the mean time to at least get you started with some exercises at home because most of the work is done at home with them.
