What does your 16 month old eat in a day?

My DD is 16 months old and finally she has decided to start eating solids :hooray:.

We have got her up to 3 small meals a day but I am just curious what the average 16 (ish) month old eats in a day.

DD is fed all fluids through a naso-gastic tube and still recieves supplements through there morning and night so she would feel fuller than the average toodler who is now on cows milk.

So otherwise, I know that she is very different to alot of other toddlers but I am just after some kind of idea IYKWIM?

DS is 15 months and his day is generally:

breakfast 3 kids weet bix

Lunch Jar, or leftovers, or sandwich, followed by yougurt aned purrred fruit.

Dinner Jar, or leftovers, or sandwich, followed by yougurt aned purred fruit and cheese stick

sometimes will have a biscuit while we have dinner if we r eating later, other times a bit of what ever we are having.

He will sometimes have a few small snacks if we are out eg playgroup etc liek cheese sticks, rice wheels, corn thins.

he will not eat pieces of fruit only puree grrr

My little miss would eat all day long if I let her, so she might not be the best guide! Just remember too some kids are big eaters & others aren't, my son would never have eaten as much as my daughter does at 16 months.

Breakfast
* piece of toast & 1.5 weetbix OR
* baked beans OR
* bacon, scrambled eggs & toast OR
* fruit salad OR
* two pancakes
* all usually with a cup of milk

Morning Tea:
* fruit, biscuits, muesli bar, yoghurt etc depends on what we have

Lunch:
* sandwich & yoghurt OR
* leftover dinner (could be just about anything) OR
* if it's cold we might cook up sausages & veges

Afternoon Tea:
* same as morning tea

Dinner:
* small bowl of whatever we're having (curries, lasagne, meat & veg, whatever)

Dessert (only sometimes):
* yoghurt OR
* custard OR
* fruit

I will give you an idea of how far we have come in just one week... at the start of last week she wouldn't take anything from a spoon and what sandwiches etc she sucks but I don't know what actually makes it to her tummy.

Yesterday she had:

Breakfast: 1/2 a weet bix (normal ones)
Lunch: Half a tub of yoghurt, also tries to eat a sandwich and sucks on watermelon.
Dinner: 1/2 a tin of spaghetti and meatballs (toddler ones)

She also had 2 grapes and an arrowroot biscuit.

She is doing well she will get there!!!

DS is not a fan of home made stuff so tends to mainly have tins and jars and sachets!! sandwiches with him are hit and miss some days cant get enough other days couldnt care less!

With DS (16mo) he can vary from day to day, But I am pretty similar to Feeb and Sarah...

Breakfast
-1-3 weetbix with milk and pured fruit for sweetening (maybe a tablespoon or so)
-handful of sultanas
-Toast

9.30 - 150ml bottle of formula / milk - we are working on cutting this one back...

Morning tea - usually a banana

Lunch
-Either meat and veges or pasta and veges or a fish cake or something similar
-yogurt or custard
-Fruit

1.30 - 200ml bottle of formula for nap

Afternoon tea - Muesli bar or yogurt if he didnt want it for lunch

Dinner
-Meat and veges or pasta or whatever I have maybe a can of baked beans? It generally depends on how much he had for lunch
-Fruit or jelly
-Biscuit

Bed - 200ml bottle of formula - again trying to cut back on this so I can sub it for milk, but it is not working...

DS still loves his milk, but in the last couple of days as his molars have settled in, he is finding eating better, and so I have noticed he is wanting more food, but still going with the milk, but I am hoping to cut this back.

DS also always has a cup of water with him, and i fill it a few times a day. He loves water with his meals too...

She sounds like she is doing so well!! DS at that age wasn't a big eater, and still isn't. I sometimes wonder how the hell he is still breathing and functioning!!!!

Miss M is a better eater - she usually has

Wake up - bottle 280ml

Breakfast
Slice of toast, fruit if she wants

Morning tea
biscuits, half a fruit bar and today she had a yoghurt

Lunch
sandwich or
Cheese on crackers
1/2 banana

Afternoon tea
biscuits, slice of fruit

Dinner
Whatever we are having.

Dessert
sometimes she gets half an icecream cut up in a bowl, but i suspect most of it ends up on the floor.

Bed
300ml milk. (this is the only bottle she will completely empty as she usually falls asleep on it)

forgot to say DS is still also having BF in morning pre breaky and one in arvo before or after sleep and then one before bed

She is doing so well, I am so proud of her, I can't believe she is actually eating!

It appears she still has a bit of catching up to do but I am happy that she will eat a variety of foods and also healthy foods, she loves her fruit! but she also loves bikkies :D.

Thankyou for taking the time to respond, it really helps knowing what others her age are up to with their eating (we didn't 'click' with Mothers group, totally different parenting styles so she doesn't really see kids her own age).

DS (just turned 17 months yesterday) is a fairly big eater and will eat anything he can get his hands on!

Breakfast:
2 1/2 weetbix with milk and fruit puree
or
2 slices of toast with a small cup of milk

Sometimes on weekends we'll have scrambled eggs on toast or pancakes

Morning tea is usually just some rice crackers or a biscuit and/or sultanas or strawberries and a cup of milk.

Lunch:
A sandwich (cheese, vegemite, peanut butter, tomato), sometimes toasted
and a banana.

Afternoon tea is a small cup of milk and/or a stick of cheddar cheese.

Dinner is usually a small bowl of whatever we have or leftovers from the night before and then some fruit like watermelon or kiwi fruit.

After dinner and bath he has a 200ml bottle of cows milk before bed.

With DS, one thing he does with fruit is suck the juice out and spit out the flesh, but he wont go near grapes, even if I peal them, and same with sandwiches... Some just get licked and fed to the dogs...

And hun, with the weetbix, are you using the kids ones? cause they are heaps lower in salt that the adult ones and a bit easier on little livers... I thought it was a marketing ploy, but when you check the salt content there is quite a difference, and if you eat them, you can really tell... So I made the switch...

It's a shame we don't live closer together. Our kids would be able to play together! In their own little 'clefty club'!

Our little guy has:

Bottle of formula on wake-up (we offer a 150 ml bottle - but he will often only take a few sips of it. Sometimes he'll drain it!)

Breakky: tub of yoghurt or 1 weet bix with fruit puree & milk (or yoghurt) or toast or bread or cruskits

Lunch: usually sandwich or cruskits and jar of pureed fruit (he also doesn't like the real stuff!) - or whatever we're having. I've got portions of spaghetti bolognaise with small pasta tubes in the freezer - we sometimes give him one of these for lunch too.

Bottle for nap (anywhere between 100 - 300 mls).

Afternoon tea : rusks (like cheesymite sticks or mum-mum rusks) while on his afternoon walk with Dad or if they go to Bakers Delight - they'll have some of that (pizza, bread, bun, etc)

Dinner: whatever we're having. He really likes rice dishes (curry, risotto, etc) or pasta and will probably (on a good day) eat about 3/4 cup of food.

Usually will have 300ml formula at bedtime.

No dessert. We don't think he's eating enough yet to offer this. He'll sometimes have sweet biscuits at morning or afternoon tea (or after lunch) - but not after our evening meal.

He started eating late too because of the cleft. We really didn't do anything big until after his surgery in March (he was about 11.5 months old) - so Matilda's doing awesome in such a short space of time! Well done Mum! :clap:

Rufalina - I might get some of the kids ones now that she is actually eating them, I hate the thought of buying something like that and just feeding it to the dog.

Nettie - Thankyou so much for your reply, it didn't even occur to me to ask a cleft mumma :doh:.
It sounds like Matilda and Liam like similar foods, I think she is eating about half the amount of Liam but she is going well. I think that she will improve alot once her cleft is repaired, it has been postponed until late Jan or Feb, hopefully she will start drinking then too.

My two are almost 16 months and this was their day today:

Breakfast: They shared a bowl of 3 weetbix (so about 1.5 each)
Then they had some fruit puree

Morning tea: Cup of milk and a muesli bar

Lunch - Small plate of mixed finger foods (pasta, carrot sticks, cheese, corn and cherry tomatoes) then a bowl of yoghurt

Afternoon tea: Cup of milk and fruit salad

Dinner: Homemade pasta then some custard

After bath: drink of milk
