So DH is going to start doing the perineal massage on me tonight (oh joy ) and he went to the health store today and the lady there recommended apricot kernel oil. Is this safe to use for this reason?
Thanks ! :D

I bought some to use as a carrier oil for my clary sage and it says suitable for internal and external use, so I'd say so - you can put it on your salad as easily as you can massage with it, so it must be pretty mild ;) Also, in a few sites I have read about caring for a damaged perineum post-birth, it mentions that it's a good oil to use with other things added, so going by that, I reckon it's fine.
It's great as a belly massage oil, btw - leaves your belly glowy and sooo soft and smooth ;)
Yeah I am sure it is fine as its natural and pure.
Awesome. Thanks guys :D
(hmm - or really - thanks guys ) LOL
;) have fun!! :p
;) No problem. Just remember - there are other ways to do perineum massage and stretching that involve your hubby, too ;) ...at this stage of the game, you might be happier with the original one you had in mind
hehe good luck! I tried it with Oskar but found it rather uncomfortable so gave up on the idea lol.
When should you start doing peri massage? Is there any benefit to starting earlier than later?
Apricot kernel oil is super safe!
My midwife (and one of the girls on here) told me any time from 34 weeks is ok. Dunno about any benefits, but from around that time it can't hurt!
Unlike the massage.. which does hurt... LOL
There is some research that says that peri massage may reduce the chance of tearing for first time mums.
Apricot oil is safe. But you could also use olive oil which is cheaper and most people already have it in the kitchen
Starting at around 34 weeks is fine
Rose Oil is generally recommended for peri massage as it aides in the stretching and circulation to the area, not just with lubrication.
HTH :)
