very friendly-good or bad trait?

this may seem an odd question but im just curious!

DD1 (3 in 2 weeks) is VERY friendly, plays extremely well with others, both kids she knows and equally as well with complete strangers. she makes friends very easily.
for example will just go and join in with groups of kids at playcenters both her age and older and play likes she's know them all her life! which i love, i love that shes comfortable with others....but..
im worried that shes not going to understand when others dont want her to play with them, she seems to think everyone is her friend, she starts 3yr old kinder next year and worried about she might get dissapointed with others kids if this happens, is it something she just has to try and accept?? is it a good or bad trait to have???

I don't know the answer, but my DD1 is exactly the same & i always feel bad when other kids don't want to play with her.

I think it is a lovely trait... you are right she will have to learn and may get upset but how gorgeous to be the kind of person who is so outgoing and inclusive of others..

DD1 is very much like this too - she has been at CC since she was 1 and she is one of the kids that really does play with all of the others. She is like a Mother Hen making sure that everyone is ok and is playing with someone. It's really nice to see.

The downside of this is that she gets invited to every single birthday party and it's costing me a fortune ;)

I think that if it did hapen where they just walked away from her and didn't want to play, that she would shrug it off and just find someone else to play with, she just seems like that kind of child to me kwim? I don't think it would phase her too much. It makes it so much easier if you have a child that can make friends anywhere she goes because it can make the transition to school so much easier not to mention that she will be able to function and not be 'lost' if her friend isn't at kindy one day kwim? My DD1 is like your DD - had heaps of friends and wasn't stuck to one or two other girls and is still like that - just flits from group to group and everyday she has played with someone different at school. DD2 on the other hand is a 'one friend child' and she and her bestie at preschool are inseperable which is great that she has a close friendship BUT they are going to different schools next year and DD2 is already upset that her friend wont be going to school with her and doesn't really understand why they can't go to the same school (we go public, her friend will go to the Catholic school) and when I tell her all the other girls from preschool who will go to school with her she says "but I'm not friends with them" so I think she will struggle a lot at first finding a new circle of friends.

Mo our girls would get along very well then!

sherie i hope that she would just shrug it off, time will tell i guess! but like you said its better to have many friends and move around! she will also probably not have anyone from kinder going to school with her so i guess this could be a good thing then :think:

AJP I agree, a lovely trait. Darcy is like Trillian's DD2, she has firm friends and if they aren't at CC, then she's sad and plays by herself. It's heartbreaking when I get there to collect her.
Sadly it's just one of those battles she has to face on her own. One we have to watch from the sidelines and support when neccessary IYKWIM?

My DD is exactly the same and I think it's a good trait.

I was the opposite and was a "one-person friend" and it burnt me on the bum quite a few times.

Sure, she will no doubt have her share of disappointments if people don't want to play but I think they will stay at the disappointing level rather than being completely devastating IYKWIM.

Hun, she will be fine, she has such a sunny nature :).

I was alot like that as kid, and it was great! Lots of friends, never worried about meeting new people etc, it's a good trait to have. DS is quite similar, will play with kids wherever he finds them!!! He found some at the cricket the other week, two girls, and they weren't keen on playing with him. They kept telling him he was too little to play, etc etc, but he wasn't fazed, and in the end they all had a lovely time playing together, because he was so persistent :lol:.

S will do really well at kinder and school etc, she'll have buckets of friends, and likely everyone will want to play with her anyway!!!! She's so easygoing :D
