Hi lovely ladies
I've been getting a bit of pain in my hip, and I'm wondering if the pregnancy pillows are any good? I've been using a throw cushion off the couch and having that between my knees and that helps a bit. Does anyone have a PP?

Hi lovely ladies

I didnt find it helped with my last preg when i had really bad hips but everyones different. i find them too big though.
I had a *fantastic* tummy pillow called a Dentons pregnancy pillow (got it at spotlight) and found it wonderful, wedged under my tum (I'm a side sleeper and always have been). It was round as well as being wedge shaped and very comfy. As I got bigger I developed SPD (pelvic laxity) and needed another regular pillow between my legs - just used a thin (children's) pillow for that. Very comfy.
YES!!! Worth every cent!! I couldn't sleep without mine. On the odd occasion that we went to stay at PILs & I forgot to pack it, I had to roll up a doona but that was a very poor substitute.
I've got one of the long body pillows that I used when I was pregnant with DS and have just started using it again with this one. It's soooo comfy. I have it between my knees and my belly rests on it, I'm a side sleeper too.
I use a body pillow too - got mine just from Pillow Talk. I use it even when not pregnant - makes it far more comfy than sleeping on your side otherwise, and you can tuck it in between your knees as well. ;)
Thanks for all the replies girls! I think I'll invest in one, just for my poor hip! Ahh the joys of sporting injuries coming back to bite you :D
A long body pillow may seem like an extravagance, but they are just too delicious in the relief they provide. I never ended up buying one, though wish I wasn't so conscious of DP's eye on the bank balance, because I've borrowed one from a friend and it's the bees knees. I'll use it a bit more now that DD is here, but I have to give it back at some stage!!
For my SPD, before the long pillow (which seems to just be a long body pillow from Kmart, not a specialised one you can get from back specialists etc) I was using a memory foam thigh pillow (and was actually using it between pregnancies when the pelvis issues would flare up again - stopped using when I went back to yoga last year to complement osteo treatment) and the Dentons preggy belly wedge. Effective, until later in pregnancy when the thigh pillow was losing its usefulness.
I'd recommend some acupuncture for the hip pain itself, on top of managing the sleeping with a body pillow :)
Thanks Mayaness :)
I used to get regular massage for the hip (the joys of national sport!), and have had a couple of pregnancy massages since becoming pregnant that helped a bit. I'll get my uncle to accupuncture me up next time I see him! Hopefully it's just playing up because of the pregnancy anyway and it'll resolve once baby is born.
The pillow sounds like a worthy extravagance!
Hi Rooey5,
I have also had a hip injury which resulted in an arthroscopy and am only now starting to feel the effects of that injury so I guess Im quite lucky. I got a body pillow but it is a bit too fat to be comfy for me so maybe have a little test of it first in the shops If you can that is... I just use a pillow under my belly and one between my knees...Good luck and I hope you find something comfy.
I have one of the long body pillows, as I get further along it's helping more and more. They do take up quite a bit of room!
I have seen some that are close to $100 but I got mine for less than $30 from Big W, glad that I did but I wasn't really prepared to spend $100 as I wasn't sure if I would use it much as I have heard mixed reports.
Yep! I have one that DH has lovingly dubbed "The Poo Pillow" (it's got a dark brown pillow cover on it ><;;) and I LOVE it. I mostly use it on my back to wedge myself on my side, otherwise I end up on my back during the night. You can use them frontways though, and sometimes I bend mine so it's like one of those banana pillows... I think they're a good investment ;)
Ive been thinking about getting one aswell but son't want to send more than $50:redface: anyone know of some good ones for that price?? sorry to hijack:doh:
I bought one last week from Kmart for $30 reduced from $40. It is awesome. I am about a size 16-18 so it has been brilliant as i normally have a bad back but am having trouble sleeping on my stomach now my boobs hurt soo much. It wedges between my legs and under my belly and i can hug it which is really comforting.
:D
I wouldn't be without mine. I have a full length body pillow and while it doesn't help with the hip pain cause by sleeping on the side it does help incredibly with a nice position for tummy.
I also wrap my legs around it like I would do with my doona. Its so soft sometimes when I snooze on the couch I wrap it up like a normal pillow as well.
Nae x
I found mine a hinderance more than a help... mainly cause I tossed and turned all night trying to find a comfy position so had to keep moving that huge long pillow around under the blanket. I reckon it would be ok if you werent a restless sleeper though.
I might duck down to kmart tonight and have a look at the body pillows;)
Gabberqueen - Maybe give them a call first. When I went apparently they had only just been restocked 3 days earlier and there were only 4 left. I'm in Melbourne so maybe my Kmart is different. The girl working there said they sell out almost as fast as they come in.
