Hi,
My DS will be one in a week and is not showing any signs of crawling. He rolls straight onto his back when you put him on his tummy unless there is an absolutely riveting toy in front of him. He can roll everywhere, sits up fine and is very balanced when standing (with me holding his hands). I am thinking that he might be one of those kids who skip crawling all together. Anyone else had a similar experience?
Not directly, but my niece didn't crawl at all. She was a bum scooter for months, and really speedy when she wanted to be, then at about 18 months got up & walked without any problems.
It's really hard not to compare what your DS is doing in comparison to others, but he's still within the normal range of when they do things, so I wouldn't worry too much. The vast majority work it out in their own time.
My DD didn't crawl, went straight from sitting to cruising the furniture, to walking. After she learned to walk she used a kind of bum shuffle crawl to get her to walls or furniture so she could stand up (after falling) but she never used crawling as a way of getting around. Great for me, saved the knees in all her jeans ;)
YES!!!! DD1 didn't crawl - she just sat and then about 15 months started bum shuffling to furniture and then walked. I was really worried about it at the time as everyone elses kids were crawling for months before she even sat up! #2 here has just started crawling and it reminded us how we never had to work around a crawler....she loves the powerpoints.

My son didn't crawl... until about 2months after he walked.
He's a weird kid. LOL
He started cruising furniture around 9 months of age and walked at 10 months. I think he was crawling just by his 1st birthday.
He commando crawled ( dragged his entire body with his arms) from an early age so I suppose he never really had the need to crawl properly. It was never a problem. I just like the think that maybe he was smarter than your average baby. I mean, why crawl when you can walk?? LOL
DD is 10months and not looking like crawling :rolleyes: She loses it if she is left sitting at the moment. She wants to stand holding onto your hands and is taking a few steps holding on to us or furniture. She can move forward by various means and rolls so she can get what she wants - she just has no inclination to crawl :lol:
My boys both crawled, but apparently I never did. Dare I say it - it never did me any harm :p
Just an update - DS started bum shuffling a week ago at 13months. He just uses his feet and bottom to get everywhere he wants. I don't think he will crawl at all. He still can't sit up from lying down, but I think that will be the next milestone that we reach.
This is my little girl EXACTLY~!! She's 10 months too!! I could have written the same thing! ;):
She has really strong legs and loves walking while we hold her so we are thinking she may not even crawl and go straight to walking...... ?
Kylie - does Logan communicate really well with people? Like his language skills are great etc?? I know with my DD, she's never been big on the mobility but she is so good with communicating and has learnt to clap her hands earlier than others and wave earlier than other babies etc...... he could just be focusing on those skills like my DD ;)
DS cruised at 6 1/2m, walked alone at 9m, crawled at 15m.
Anyone thinking he's a strange child... he just takes after Mama! (Not only strange, but also didn't crawl.)
Ren - OMG that is so true of DS. He has so many words, in the range of 10 to 20, much more than most others in our mums group. He can communicate his needs very well in comparison. I think in the end they all end up at the same place, just each child develops different things at different stages :)
Yep, I agree :) yep it sounds like Logan is just focusing on other important things besides how mobile he can be!!! Like language ;) That's what my little girl has been doing... she is very clever for her age and can do many things alot of other babies in her baby group aren't doing yet!!!! tee hee hee.... it's great, we haven't even had to baby proof much of the house yet!!!!! haha Like at the age of 8mths, we could ask DD "what does a lion say?" and she'd growl like a lion, like make a growl sound.... thats sooo clever for a bub that age! the next baby who can't do that might be crawling all over the lounge.:
