Hitting head on the side of cot

Since DD has become mobile in her cot she always seems to end up sideways.

This then ends in her bumping her head quite hard on the wooden bars on the side of the cot. She ends up screaming and then it is hard to get her back to sleep.

How do I stop this?

I was thinking about cot bumpers but am worried about cot death. Has the risk of cot death lowered now that DD can move around?

I dont want to go and buy them and use them if its still too risky but if anyone has other suggestions of what I can do to stop this, I would love to hear them.

She just grew out of it though - I think it takes them a little while to get the handle of where the sides of the cot are. I wouldn't worry too much, Charlotte stopped waking herself up very quickly.

You can use cot bumpers, just get ones that are only around the top half of the cot, so that there is still airflow.

Sorry don't know how helpful that was lol, as I said we didn't find a 'solution' as such, just waited til she got the knack of being able to move around the cot without scaring herself. (she moves HEAPS in her sleep)

DD does this. At first it would upset her sometimes, but she did get used to it. I don't think she was hurting herself, just a shock.

Maybe just give her some time? You can't stop them moving once they start.

I'm really not sure about SIDS. I would assume the risk is lower once they can move, but I think I remember something about SIDS possibly being caused by babies not realising they need to do something when their breathing is being restricted?

I do know someone who wrapped cloth around each bar on the cot. Maybe that would be safer.
