Hysterical when I have to cut his nails????

Ds hates me cutting his nails.:( Its breaking my heart, we have to pin him down so i can do it :(

He screams to the point it sounds like i am trying to murder him...which I'm not.

He gets so hysterical he goes blue and gets that real sob cry happening? We tried giving him chocolate and letting him watch TV while i did it but he goes bananas.

His nails are sooo long that he is cutting his feet and toes and I am worried he will scratch baby when it decides to come along :)

Any suggestions...besides what DH said, that we will have to sedate him...men :rolleyes:

when he's asleep? (deeply asleep?)

OR - could he help use nail clippers? - you line it up and he pushes down/together?

OR cut yours for you using nail clippers as above?

DS1 was the same.
He still doesnt like them being done especially his toes.
We generally have to go to my Aunt and Uncles house as for some reason he lets my uncle do it, lucky they are only 10 mins away. I have no idea why though he doesnt do anything different :(

Have they been cut too short in the past? I know DH cuts DS1s nails too short for his liking and it makes his fingers feel strange. He is always worse after DH has done them so I normally keep them under control as best i can.

Charlie goes bonkers even when we try to bite her's off after a bath. Sensitive nail bed?

Controlfreak ..yeah I used to do that when he was baby but I think he would wake now? DH has cut his nails then said your turn and he says yes...but once you try he lets loose?

Crazy I said the to DH today maybe he can feel it...he just laughed.

I did cut his finger when he was tiny sureyl he couldnt remember that could he?

I was going to suggest asleep, thats the only time we can cut Jazzy's.

can you do it while he is asleep? I try and do DD's while she is asleep at the moment because she is so wiggly!

Get Nelly to cut them - she's awesome - she has a gift I swear!! My kids always fought soooo much, so they would just grow and grow and grow, and I was hanging with Nelly one day and she cut them - no fuss out of either of them!!

I did them the other day - and they were both fine with it!! Although, DD has always been the worst one, so DH was giving her a massage after her bath and I just did it while that was being done.

DD HATES it too, screams, i leave them as long as i can but its so painfull for me and her...scratches everywhere!
i try lots and somethings work sometimes, I make sure she is not tired or hungry....best time is when she has just got up from her arvo sleep.
we sit on the bed and play with the clippers, pretending to clip her nails and then teddies and mine, i let her hold them and she pretends to do mine, then i do one, or two if she isnt making to much fuss, then go back to playing with them, singing ONE...clip, clip, clip....TWO....clip, clip, clip....takes a while and it gets a bit rushed at the end when she is getting bored, but its getting a bit easier. if its really bad il do one hand one day and the other the next then the feet on another day. as long as they all eventually get done...lol.
I have found its best not to try to just hold her and do it all at once...then she is scared of the clippers before we even start.

i clipped lachlans tonight actually, he just sits on my lap for a cuddle and he likes to see his reflection in the metal(its so cute, he points and says 'rocky!') but i never push him, just do as much as he is comfortable with then try again in a few minutes.

Bite them.

It is super easy and they will let you do it.

He will most likely grow out of it. Charlotte went through a phase like this - mum laughed at me and asked me why I don;t just bite them. It had never occured to me.
We actually made it a game (monster eating her fingers off lol) and she thinks it is hilarious. She lets me cut them now but still likes it when I bite them ;)

I had 2 kids that did this.. Thank goodness they are mostly fine now..

I honestly just got on with it. It needed to be done and I just kept reassuring them I was not hurting them but if they kept yelling and moving thier hand then they would get hurt because I wouldn't be able to hold the clippers properly..

I wasn't able to do it at night as they would pull thier hands away.. I did get them to attempt to do it themselves and also to give it a go on my nails..
