If your desired sale price is not achieved

Hi - I'm new to Ebay - and am selling my Mountain Buggy/Basinette/Cover/Pump - it's 12 months old, so near new. I got some advice from my local baby shop who said I'd have no trouble selling it on Ebay, but to start it at $0.99 as that will attract a lot more bidders than putting a high Buy It Now or starting price. Well, I'm only a few days in on a 10 day auction and do have some interest, but the top bid is only at $100.00 or so. I know this could go up dramatically towards the end of the auction. My question and worry is, just say the action only yields say $300? This pram etc is worth a lot more than that - I want $800 for it - what should I do? Should I have put a buy it now price on it to start with? Definately open to any advice you experienced ebayer's can offer!! Thanks!

i think maybe you should have started with a price closer to the price you are hoping to achieve, or perhaps done a buy it now price.... $800 seems a lot for an ebay pram, although i will admit i know nothing about resale value of mountain buggys.... can you see other prams similar going for that amount?

As an ebayer (and an addict :lol:) I will tell you that there is not a hope in hell I would pay $800 for a second hand pram no matter what brand it is. If it was brand new and never used I might consider it but that would at a stretch. I never pay more than half price for a second hand item, but thats just me.

Unfortunately because the auction has started there is nothing you can do. If it sells for $100 or $500 you must accept the winning price. I think starting the bid at $0.99 considering you were hoping for much more was a bit of a bad move personally. I would have done a buy it now price of say $600 with a starting bid price of say $250. But you know that for next time and its all a learning experience.

Good luck with the auction - I hope you get a better price but TBH I doubt you will get near the $800 that you want for it - but you never know someone might get into a bidding war.

If I list something for 99c - thats all I expect to get for it, anything more than that is a bonus.

You can add a buy it now option for the price you are wanting - but unfortunately you get what you get in this case.

Unfortunately, like others have said, when you sell on eBay, you need to be prepared to accept the lowest possible bid for your item. Starting at $0.99 means that you run the risk of your item selling for $0.99. Starting it higher means yes less people might look at it but if they aren't wanting/willing to pay what you want for it then you don't really need them to look at it anyway do you ;)

From the looks of it you'll probably get between $200 and $500 judging by other completed listings, so this is probably your learning experience. We all have them. I sold a brand new textbook on eBay a few years ago, actually brand new I had never opened the pages (I dropped that subject) I bought it not two weeks before for $150, started it at $0.99 thinking it would go for more because it was 'worth more' but it sold for $45. Someone got a bargin :doh: Which is mostly what people are looking for on eBay...

yep i agree with the others, with ebay, i never assume everything will sell, let alone for a good price.. saves dissapointment!

there was a thread recently about people who overcharge for postage, to cover what they miss out on in the actual auction, which you are not allowed to do.

i hope you get more than $100 for the pram!

DH has been watching Mountain Buggies on EBay for a while now.

Sorry that I'm not the bearer of good news - the average price that used ones are selling for is $300 - $500 - maybe a bit more for an almost new one if you are in Syd or Melb because generally they are only pickup items so you have a limited market.

Eeek, I think that expecting $800 might be a bit ambitious. Compare what you have with other's on ebay, and in your area.

In honesty, if you list something for $0.99, you take the risk of it going for that.

I sold my old pram which was in immaculate condition, with a bassinette attachment etc recently on ebay. I listed it at $150 - because I had been watching what other ones had been selling (or not selling) for. I decided that $150 was fair. I was contacted the next day by someone who lived very close by, who wanted to 'Buy it Now'. I added a Buy it now price of $200, and she bought it immediately.
I was lucky that she wanted exactly what I had, and did not want to wait - we both felt we had done ok.

Hi just confirming what price others are quoting, seeing you can buy a new MB with pump and nappy bag on sale for $800, generally people won't pay more than 50% of new price even if it's in 'as new' condition... and the basinettes are selling second hand for around $100.

FWIW I just bought on Gumtree a 1 y/o MB urban elite without basinette but with $300 of extras (bumper bar, rain cover, sun cover, sheepskin liner) for $450.

You may prefer Gumtree in future for this sort of pick-up-only item as you name your price and can negotiate with an individual interested seller.

GL and don't worry too much I actually think you'll get a good price! Expect a run up on the price until the last second of the auction, I have missed out on HEAPS of baby items recently for that reason.
