waters broken or not?

When your waters break can the flow stop and start?
sorry if this is tmi!
I got up to go the toilet this morning, had a pee. Came back to bed, about 5-10 mins later I get a contraction (I always get them after going the toilet and throughout the day anyway for the last week), it was strong and as I got out of bed, I felt a little leak. Though it must of been a bit of pee! :redface:. When I wiped tiny amount of what looked like mucous plug.
Anyway, I was still having very irregular contraction pains (not sure if pre-labour or the usual braxton hicks I get), so I got in the bath for about an hour. Had about 2 pains. I also felt a little trickle in the bath!
Got out, came on the computer, put on a panty liner on. Sat here for about 20 mins, got up walked into bedroom, down 2 steps and then a big leak, enough to soak thin panty liner. Fluid clear and water like. Didnt smell of urine.
Now there is no fluid, can the flow just stop like this? would it keep coming if it was the amniotic fluid? or does it sound like I could just have weak pelvic floors!? :doh:
(I havent had a contraction/braxton hicks for about half an hour)

Update, only a few mins since I wrote the above. Just got up, had a pain, then a tiny leak, and went the toilet, and I have a bit of blood stained fluid Its more mucous, like egg white but very thin streaks of blood, but still very watery. (sorry if tmi) can amniotic fluid be streaked with blood or is this my plug/show? thanks!

its probably ur plug my waters came out a little bit at each contraction like i was peeing myself and plug didnt come out till i went to the hospital

Amniotic fluid generally doesn't have blood streaks in it but the cervix does so the fluid can wash some bloody bits down with it giving the appearance its blood stained. It sounds like you probably have a hind water leak (water above the baby) which is why it is coming and going and only small amounts. Try coughing and see if that triggers a leak. Amniotic fluid generally smells like after sex smell or body odour. Sometimes it can be hard to smell and other times its very strong. It does have a distinct smell but.
I'd call the hospital or birthing place you intend on birthing at as some places (like where I work) don't like you to have ruptured membranes (even if its just a little bit) for more then so many hours without commencing antibiotics especially if your GroupB strep positive (you will know if you are usually)

Hi there...it sounds like you could have either a slow leak or a 'hind water' leak. A friend of mine leaked like this for a few days before labour started.
You might want to get the leaking tested, because if it is amniotic fluid, your caregivers might like to have a time frame on the labour starting to avoid infection. That being said, I lost the lot in one go (the classic tv-style...whoosh... and streams of water) and I didn't go into labour for about 16 hours. The hospital wanted to induce me within 36 hours, but luckily it all happened sooner.

Sounds like your plug coming away, it can start as watery mucous and turn into a bloody show. Like Emmy83 said best to let your hospital know.
sounds like labour is very close for you :)
If your worried AT ALL about what the mucous looks like etc then go in and have it checked.

it doesnt really smell of anything. Luckily I'm off to the doctors today anyway! (I'm 40 weeks 1 day), my appointment is at 2.40pm and its 9.20am here, takes 2 hours to get to the town and we are leaving soon. I might give the midwifes at the hospital a call if anything else happens inbetween if not I will wait for the doctors appointment :)

Good luck hun. I'm not sure about the kind of care you're getting, but I hope it all goes well and they don't push you into anything you don't want to do. Is someone going to the doctors with you?

Thats good timing then having a Drs appointment today. I am sure he/she can confirm if its normal late stage pregnancy leakage or some amniotic fluids.

Oh I don't know if I should be excited that you haven't posted here again or not, but the day I had Elijah, I had that pinky watery mucousy discharge in the morning, there was also a slight discomfort when going to the toilet, kinda hard to explain but not something I think I'll forget, weird feeling. Hope you are having or had your baby!
