What are the chances of ds getting chicken pox ?

Hi all,

I am just wondering what your point of view is on Lachlan getting chicken pox.
Hamish has chicken pox at the moment and got them pretty badly, we are just about at the end of it for him, he picked it up from school as other kids in the class had it.
I have had Hamish home all week as well as Lachlan.
Lachlan is 16 months and hasn't had his chicken pox immunisation yet. He is all over Hamish in fact all three kids always play together.
Emma has had chicken pox before the boys came along.
Im just wondering what the chances are that Lachlan will get them. I had a bit of hope that the fact that i'm still bf him may help..
Also how long would it take before he starts showing signs, and what do I do. Do i stay home just in case he gets them once Hamish is all clear ?

Pretty high I'd say - chicken pox is airborn as well as passed on by contact & pretty wildly contagious, so if he doesn't I reckon you can thank your BFing for that!

I'd say he'll more than likely get them. My DD had chicken pox at 4 mths old after DS and DD1 had them. My nephew came down with them a couple of weeks ago then last week his brother who was 4 weeks old came down with them too. Luckily he (the baby) only had a very mild dose.

I'd say quite high. Chicken pox is very contagious, and spreads easily through casual contact. It's almost always quite a benign disease, though - annyoingly itchy while it lasts, but usually passes quickly and leaves nothing but the odd scar.

Like Tinkerbell, my DS2 had them at 4months too, I was BFing & he still got a pretty good dose.

I'm not sure how long it would take to show up, but DS2 got them about 2 weeks after DD1 came down with them & about 1 week after DS1.
So maybe a few days, maybe a week?...

Thanks ladies I thought as much but i was kinda fooling myself into thinking he would be ok. Now what to do...
Its dd's birthday next week and i am betting he will get them just in time for that and to top it off I have my neice here as well. She has had the immunisation but i am betting she will still end up with a mild case. I told my brother that Hamish was still contagious but they did it anyway......So my bet is I will have two toddlers with chicken pox next week...I guess only time will tell

The incubation period is 2 weeks and it is during this time that chicken pox is the most contagious. I would say there is a fairly good chance your DS2 will get Chicken pox, but by BF him you might beable to reduce the severity.
