12 week ultra sound showed baby has a thick nuchal fold of 5-6mm??? So worried!!!

I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins. I had my 12 week nuchal translucency scan today. Baby A is perfect- baby B however has a nuchal fold measurement of 5 or 6mm. The dr said there is a 75% chance that the baby has downs or another abnormality. If baby B does then he said we will more than likely have to terminate because if we dont there is a high risk we will also loose baby A. I am so scared.

I am having a CVS tomorrow but wont get results til Mon or Tues!!!! Going to be the longest week ever and I am so scared of loosing my baby. I am praying that I am in the 25% that has nothing wrong, someones gotta be right???? Has anyone else had a similar experience???

My son's measurement was not as high as yours is but it is a happy ending story so I thought I'd post anyway. His was 4.2mm. The amnio showed no abnormalities & sure enough when he was born he just had a kind of fat fold of skin at the back of his neck.

The wait for the results is really horrendous. Make sure you keep yourself busy with things that require brain work. If you are working then put your mind in to your job. If not working (or when not at work) do crossword puzzles, read books anything at all to keep your brain away from thinking about the possibilities.

I just wanted to give you a big hug. I am in a similar situation right now. I had my 12 week ultrasound last week and the baby had a 3.8 measurement for the nuchal fold and I have a 1 in 60 chance of Downs.

However, because the baby is measuring ahead of dates, they wouldn't let me have a CVS and I have to wait for an amnio. This will be next Wednesday so I still have another whole week to wait - and then another wait for the actual results. I alternate between being terrified and thinking that everything will be okay and trying not to cry hysterically.

Allow yourself a good cry and then keep busy as much as possible - keeping busy is the only way I find that I am coping okay. I couldn't help myself and have had a look on the computer and I have actually found lots of happy endings...yes, even with nuchal fold readings as high as 6. I believe that one is actually here on BB. Knowing that there are lots of positive outcomes has helped me enormously...it reminds me that the nuchal fold is only a measurement, not a diagnosis and there is still a good chance that the baby is fine.

Hey hun...massive hugs to you. I had a singleton and the measurement was 6mm and with the bloods combind, the risk for downs was 1 in 19 and the risk for t18 was 1 in 30. Its such a very stressful time and my thoughts are with you. I had a cvs too, the proceedure itself didnt hurt, but I found after it felt like I had done 1000 sit ups without training for it (thats the only way I could discibe it). We got the FISH results back a few days later...had it done on the friday and initial results on the monday. We got the all clear and have a healthy happy 2.5 year old daughter.

This is a very trying time for you and your partner. Cry, let it out. I wish you all the very best tomorrow and pray that you get positive results.

Thank you all so much for the reassurance and good thoughts- it really means alot.

I had my CVS today and it went well. Baby Bs Nuchal Fold was 5.5mm yesterday and today was 4.9. The dr said they can get bigger and smaller depending on what baby is doing so I dont know weather to think of it as a good thing. I love hearing storys about people who had good results I really hope this happens to me. :pray:
